The Book of Common Prayer | |||||||

The Lusitanian Church is the branch of the Anglican Communion in Portugal. It is small, numbering about 5000 members. It was founded in 1880, like the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church formed about the same time, in response to the then-new Roman Catholic doctrine on Papal infallibility. The Lusitanian Church created its own Prayer Book in 1882. That book was replaced in 1928, and then by this current Prayer Book in 1991, which reflects the liturgical reforms of the previous 50 years. As may be seen by the Table of Contents below, this Prayer Book contains all the services typically found in most Prayer Books, save for the Ordinal. Services for particular days (e. g., Ash Wednesday, Easter Vigil) are found in with the Propers. The text has been spell-checked, but, as I know no Portuguese, there are likely still some typos present. If any errors are found, please let me know. We also have an English translation of an experimental Eucharist from 1965, which is somewhat different than the one here, adopted 26 years later.
