Breaking News
Violence in Kenya continues to have repercussions.

Kenyan Anglican Archbishop David Gitari, speaking to ENI, reported, "I told [President] Moi myself that his days are numbered and his kingdom will crumble if he refuses to repent and accept constitutional changes." Gitari's dramatic statement followed the violent suppression of pro-democratic rallies and the storming of a Cathedral by government police.

In a related story, Anglican bishops meeting in South Africa heard details of Gitari's protest.

Canadian and English churches discuss homosexuality

It's not just the U.S. Episcopal Church that faces the issue of homosexuality.

  • In Canada, British Columbia's bishops have called for the extension of equal protection under the law to homosexuals, a position they believe consistent with that taken by the Anglican Church of Canada.
  • The General Synod of the Church of England voted to request that clergy and congregations engage in "further discussion on the issue of human sexuality." Placing the issue squarely before the worldwide Anglican Communion, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd George Carey, announced that next year's Lambeth conference would be asked to set up an international commission of inquiry into human sexuality.
