PRIME.
An early morning Service.

Reader

O God, make speed to save us;
O Lord, make haste to help us.

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Praise ye the Lord;
The Lord’s Name be praised.

Hymn.

Psalm 119.

BLESSED are those that are undefiled in the way: and walk in the law of the Lord.
    2 Blessed are they that keep His testimonies: and seek Him with their whole heart.
    3 For they who do no wickedness: shall walk in His ways.
    4 Thou hast charged: that we shall diligently keep Thy commandments.
    5 O that my ways were made so direct: that I might keep Thy statutes!
    6 So shall I not be confounded: while I have respect unto all Thy commandments.
    7 I will thank Thee with an unfeigned heart: when I shall have learned the judgements of Thy righteousness.
    8 I will keep Thy ceremonies: O forsake me not utterly.
    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Or

WHEREWITHAL shall a young man cleanse his way: even by ruling himself after Thy word.
    10 With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not go wrong out of Thy commandments.
    11 Thy words have I hid within my heart: that I should not sin against Thee.
    12 Blessed art Thou, O Lord: O teach me Thy statutes.
    13 With my lips have I been telling: of all the judgements of Thy mouth.
    14 I have had as great delight in the way of Thy testimonies: as in all manner of riches.
    15 I will talk of Thy commandments: and have respect unto Thy ways.
    16 My delight shall be in Thy statutes: and I will not forget Thy word.
    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Lesson:

NOW unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever.   1 Timothy 1. 17.

    Thanks be to God.

Reader

    Jesu Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy upon us;
    Jesu Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy upon us.
    Thou that sittest at the right hand of the Father;
    Have mercy upon us.
    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
    Jesu Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy upon us.

O Lord, arise, help us;
And deliver us for Thy Name’s sake.

(All kneel.)

Lord, have mercy upon us.
    Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. Amen.

    O let my mouth be filled with Thy praise.
    That I may sing of Thy glory and honour all the day long.
    Turn Thy face from my sins, O Lord;
    And put out all my misdeeds.
    Make me a clean heart, O God;
    And renew a right spirit within me.
    Cast me not away from Thy presence;
    And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
    O give me the comfort of Thy help again;
    And stablish me with Thy free spirit.

Reader and People

WE confess to God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, through our own grievous fault. Wherefore we pray God to have mercy upon us.

ALMIGHTY God, have mercy upon us, forgive us all our sins and deliver us from all evil, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to life everlasting: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If a Priest be present, he shall stand and pronounce the following Absolution:

MAY the Almighty and merciful Lord grant unto you pardon and remission of all your sins, time for amendment of life, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reader

Wilt Thou not turn again and quicken us;
That Thy people may rejoice in Thee?
O Lord, shew Thy mercy upon us;
And grant us Thy salvation.
Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin;
O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us.
O Lord, hear our prayer;
And let our cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray.

O ALMIGHTY Lord and everlasting God, vouchsafe, we beseech Thee, to direct, sanctify and govern, both our hearts and bodies in the ways of Thy laws and in the works of Thy commandments: that through Thy most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Lord be with you;
And with thy spirit.

Let us bless the Lord;
Thanks be to God.

THE Lord bless us, preserve us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life; and may the souls of the faithful, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

A SHORTENED FORM OF
MORNING PRAYER.

Hymn.

Reader

I LAID me down and slept, and rose up again: for the Lord sustained me.   Psalm 3. 5.

Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God.

Altogether

O GOD, our Father, we have sinned against Thee in thought, word, and deed: we have not loved Thee with all our heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. Have mercy upon us, we beseech Thee; cleanse us from our sins, and help us to overcome our faults; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Reader

GRANT, we beseech Thee, merciful Lord, to Thy faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve Thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord, open Thou our lips;
And our mouth shall shew forth Thy praise.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

(All stand.)

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

Praise ye the Lord;
The Lord’s Name be praised.

The Venite. Psalm 95.

O COME, let us sing unto the Lord: let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
    2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving: and shew ourselves glad in Him with psalms.
    3 For the Lord is a great God: and a great King above all gods.
    4 In His hand are all the corners of the earth: and the strength of the hills is His also.
    5 The sea is His, and He made it: and His hands prepared the dry land.
    6 O come, let us worship, and fall down: and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
    7 For He is the Lord our God: and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.
    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

The Lesson.

The Jubilate. Psalm 100.

O BE joyful in the Lord, all ye lands: serve the Lord with gladness, and come before His presence with a song.
    2 Be ye sure that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
    3 O go your way into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and speak good of His Name.
    4 For the Lord is gracious, His mercy is everlasting: and His truth endureth from generation to generation.
    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed.

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
    And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried, He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
    I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Catholick Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; And the Life everlasting. Amen.

[Or at the discretion of the Reader may be said

I BELIEVE in God the Father, Who hath made me, and all the world.
    I believe in God the Son, Who hath redeemed me, and all mankind.
    I believe in God the Holy Ghost, Who sanctifieth me, and all the elect people of God. Amen.]

Reader

The Lord be with you;
And with thy spirit.

Let us pray.

OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

The Collect for the Day.

The Collect for Peace.

O GOD, Who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of Whom standeth our eternal life, Whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us Thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in Thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for Grace.

O LORD, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, Who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend us in the same with Thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by Thy governance, to do always that is righteous in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray for Clergy and People.

Let Thy Priests be clothed with righteousness;
And let Thy saints sing with joyfulness.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, Who alone workest great marvels: Send down upon our Bishops, and Clergy, and all Congregations committed to their charge, the healthful spirit of Thy grace; and that they may truly please Thee, pour upon them the continual dew of Thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Let us pray for this place

Commit thy way unto the Lord.
And put thy trust in Him.

ALMIGHTY GOD, look down with Thy favour upon all who are gathered together here. Do Thou protect our village from all sickness and famine, from fire and hurricane, earthquake and accident. But chiefly, do Thou help us all, that some may teach rightly and others hear properly, and all of us live uprightly, and praise Thee that Thou hast given knowledge unto us, and also remember always those in our islands who are still heathen; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer of S. Chrysostom.

ALMIGHTY God, Who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto Thee; and dost promise, that when two or three are gathered together in Thy Name Thou wilt grant their requests; Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of Thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of Thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13. 14.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

O Lord, deal not with us after our sins.
Neither reward us after our iniquities.

Let us pray.

O GOD, Merciful Father, that despisest not a repentant and sorrowful heart. Mercifully help our prayers that we make before Thee in all our troubles, and graciously hear us, that the evil which devil or man may work against us, be brought to nothing; and that we Thy servants, living in peace, may evermore give thanks to Thee in Thy Holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    O Lord, arise, help us, and deliver us for Thy Name’s sake.
