THE MAKING OF CATECHUMENS.
(Kupeleka Msalaba.)

The Candidates stand in the Church in the Place of the Catechumens. The Priest wears a Surplice and violet stole. The Crosses with strings may be arranged on a short stick and carried by the server.

THE PROMISES.

1. (Priest) Mupangwanji lomba?
(Answer) Nupangwa kusambila zya Yesu Kristo noliwamya katela ku Ubatizo Ŵozila.
2. (Priest) Kansi muŵoyezya kusunga matetulo a Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse wamene ni Ausu ŵanu na Asikulu wanu?
(Answer) Inde, niŵoyezya kusunga matetulo a Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse wamene ni Ŵata na Asikulu.
3. (Priest) Kansi muŵoyezya kumkana Satana nsita zyonse, nokana ufwiti, vila viipa, kukolwa walwa, wenye, kutukana
4. (Priest) Kansi muŵoyezya nsita zyonse kukana kukonka misango iipa:—ni kutila nsembe ku vyopozewa, kuyombezya maula, ntengo ya cipali, kano msango uli ŵonse ulesyewa kwa Anafunzi?
(Answer) Inde, niŵoyezya nsita zyonse kukana kukonka misango iipa:—ni kutila nsembe ku vyopozewa, kuyombezya maula, ntengo ya cipali, kano msango uli ŵonse ulesyewa kwa Anafunzi.
5. (Priest) Kansi muŵoyezya kuwapo pa malombelo pa Siku la Mlungu masabata ŵonse, nomsenga Mlungu masiku ŵonse?
(Answer) Inde, niŵoyezya kuwapo pa malombelo pa Siku la Mlungu masabata ŵonse, nomsenga Mlungu masiku ŵonse.

The Candidates kneel down.

    Natilombe.

    Mlungu, Awisi a Asikulu wasu, Yesu Kristo, ŵaikamo mmitima yanu cipangwilo ici ciweme cusakila cawanzi cake ca Ubatizo Ŵozila, palusungu Iwake lukulu ampeni kukoselela kankalilo, kuti muŵocita vyakupangwa Yeve nsiku zyonse zya moyo wanu.

Now the Candidates stand, the Priest puts the Cross on the neck of each one and says:—

    (Name) nukulovya mliumba la Anafunzi a Yesu Kristo mu Eklezya yake Ikatoliko. Poka msalaba uyu, ni ciziwikwilo cakuti Yesu Kristo ecifwa pamsalaba pamlandu wako, na kuti lelo otambulula manja ŵake kukupokelela nokusyukisya.

Those who have received the Cross kneel down.

    Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse aŵomyavyani na Mzimu wake Mtuŵa, nomtangululani kuti posililila muze munkalililamo mu mtendele wake. Amen.
 


 

 

THE ANOINTING OF CATECHUMENS.
(Kuzoleka Anafunzi oliwamya ku
Ubatizo Ŵozila.)

At the time of the Mass, before the Dismissal of the Catechumens, (or some other convenient time) the Priest goes to the Place of the Catechumens, he faces East (to the Altar). The Candidates stand facing him (looking West), then the Priest says:—

Ŵana ŵangu (mwana ŵangu) mupangwanji?
(Answer) Nupangwa kubatiziwa.

The Priest addresses the congregation.

    Akwasu ŵotemweka, pakuti ŵantu ŵonse civyalikwilo akuŵa ŵolenda mmitima, na cikomo coteti opuvyopona mviipa na kuti Mpuzumusyi wasu Yesu Kristo eciti, Sangalowemo muntu mu ufumu wa Mlungu, akakanovyalikwa mu moyo wa lomba na manzi na Mzimu Mtuŵa; napapata kuti mumsenge Mlungu Ŵata, mwa Zina la Asikulu ŵasu Yesu Kristo, kuti aŵape ŵantu aŵa (amupe muntu uyu) mpamvu zyosunsuluka nsiku na nsiku kupangwa Ubatizo Ŵozila; nozula mvwano nondandaula pamlandu wa viipa vyaŵo (vyake) kuti aŵekuŵa ŵowamila kubatiziwa na Mzimu Mtuŵa nocisyiwa vizo vya moyo vya moyo vya (cizo ca moyo ca) Yesu Kristo.

    Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse, mwaikano mmitima ya ŵantu aŵa (mmutima wa muntu uyu) cipangwilo ca Ubatizo Ŵozila na kulekelewa kwa viipa vyaŵo (vyake); Tusenga kuti muzomele kuŵapokelela (kumpokelela) umo mmwizomelela pakanwa paMwana ŵanu ŵotemweka, peciti, Sengani ninga cipewe kwanu; sakani, ninga mufwange: kuntani, ninga cizuliwe kwanu. Now the Priest asks the Candidates these questions, they answer one by one:

Kansi, wakukana Satana na milimo yake yonse?
(Answer) Inde, nakumkana Satana na milimo yake yonse.
Kansi, wakukana ulemo wa tyala wa mcalo, na mcmzi wake watyala?
(Answer) Inde, nakukana ulemo watyala wa mcalo, na mcinzi wake watyala.
Kansi, wakukana makumbwilo aipa a mmuŵili?
(Answer) Inde, nakukana makumbwilo aipa a mmuŵili.

THE EXORCISM.

The Priest says:—

    NUKUPINGULA weo, Satana, + pa Zina la Ŵata, na la Mwana na la Mzimu Mtuŵa, fumamo mu ŵantu awa fmuntu'uvu) nakuya kutali na weve (yeve) pakuti Asikulu Lsu Yesu Kristo wawaita (wamwita) kuza ku Ubatizo wake ŵozila acisyiwe vizo vya (acisyiwe cizo ca) Muŵili wake Cikomo coteti, we mzimu wosyamikiwa, imvwa upinguzi ululembewe—usati wowawevya ŵantu aŵa (womumevya muntu uyu) pakuti Kristo ewanunula (emnunula), na mlopa wake wa mcinzi ukulu noteaMa (nomsalula) kuti aloŵemo mu liumba lake pa Ubatizo Ŵozila.

Then the Priest dips his thumb into the Oil of Catechumens, he signs each one with the Sign of the Cross as he says:—

+ MSALABA WA KRISTO NAUKUWA WOPATUSYA SATANA KULI WEO MAŴELO, NA WEO, MWANA ŴANGU, WAKULWA NAYE NKONDO NOMSUSYA NA MPAMVU ZYA MLUNGU MPAKA KUFWA. AMEN.

Now he reads the Gospel:—

Asikulu aŵe na mweo.
Soti na mzimu wanu.

    EVANGELO yulembewa mchapter 3 ca mu Evangelo ya mlingo wa Msanto Yohana.
    Enzepo muntu wa mwa Afarisayo, zina lake Nikodemo, mmbili wa Ayuda wamene uyu emzila usiku emnenela, Rabi, tuziwa nimwe msambizi wofumila kwa Mlungu; pakuti paliye muntu angacite ivi viziwikwilo vimucita mweo akakana Mlungu kuŵa naye pamo, Yesu eyasuka enena naye, Lezee, lezee nukuuzya, Akakana muntu kuvyalikwa soti sangaŵone ufumu wa Mlungu. Nikodemo enena naye, Nga muntu angavyalikwe tyani akawa okota? kansi angalowe pakawili mvumo la anyina novyalikwa?     (Answer) Mayamiko kwawo, Mlungu.

THE GIVING OF THE LORD'S PRAYER AND THE CREED.

The Priest says:—

    Ŵana ŵangu (mwana ŵangu) citatikile lelo ni kuzomelewa kuti mosambizyiwa (wosambizyiwa) kunena Lombelo iii la Asikulu, na Mvwano wa Apostolo. Cikomo coteti lolesyani (lolesya) ku Mazabau, nonena pokonkesya malizu ŵangu:—

The Candidates now turn to face the Altar: The Priest says clause by clause:

Ausu wasu, muli kumulu,—Zina lanu nalulemekewa, Ufumu ŵanu nauze,—Kupangwa kwanu nakucitiwa, Pansi pano nga ni kumulu:
Mtipe lelo cakulya casu ca nsiku,
Mtilekelele viipa vyasu, nga ni seo Mtuŵalekela otipontela.
Msatiulila mmayezyo,—sembe mticilingizye kuviipa:
Pakuti ŵanu ni ufumu na mpamvu na ulemo, vilimika vyosasila. Amen.

The Creed.
Neo numcetekela Mlungu Ŵata, Mwme wa mpamvu zyonse,
Epoza kumulu na pansi;
Na Yesu Kristo, Mwana wake sicimo, Asikulu wasu,
Euliwa mvumo na Mzimu Mtuŵa,—Evyalikwa kwa Maliya Virgo,
Etamana kwa Pontiyo Pilato,—Epacikiwa pa Msalaba,
Ecifwa,—Eikiwa mu msitu,—Esika mParadiso,
Nga ni mazo ezyuka kwa akufwa,—Ecip kumulu,

They turn back to face the Priest:

    Mlungu mwine wa mpamvu zyonse na wa yyaka vyonse, Ausu wasu muli kumulu; Tumyamikani kolisisya pemwizomela kutiita seo tiziwe cawanzi canu nommvwilani: Tapapata muŵape ŵantu aŵa (mumpe muntu uyu) kuti awopuzyamo nsiku na nsiku mu mvwano na mkulinasya; kuti aŵekuŵa ŵowamila kuvyalikwa soti nocisyiwa apyani a (mpyani wa) upuzumusyi wa kankalilo, mwa Yesu Kristo Asikulu wasu. THE SCRUTINIES IN PREPARATION FOR HOLY BAPTISM.
(Makonsyo kwa Anafunzi osaluliwa
ku Ubatizo.)

Presentation.

On Tuesday in the Baptism week, at the beginning of the Mass, the Priest, standing at the lower Altar step, will call the names of the Candidates for Baptism. These will stand in the Place of the Catechumens, in front of their fellow Catechumens. They shall answer their names as they are called. When this is done, the Priest speaks to the Congregation:—

    AKWASU ŵotemweka, ŵantu aŵa ŵaza kuliwamizyatu ku Ubatizo Ŵozila. Lomba ali pakazanga panu kuti azomelewe na mweo kuŵa wowamila kulovyewa mciwanza ca Mlungu. Cikomo coteti, kati alipo ali ŵonse wa mweo oziwa cikomo colesya muntu ali ŵonse wa ŵantu awa asabatiziwa, akundulule lomba pano.

Then the Priest goes to the Altar and begins the Mass of the Day.

The Scrutinies.

Every day from Tuesday until Friday, after the reading of the Gospel, the Priest and his servers leave the Altar and go to the Place of the Catechumens and, facing the Candidates for Baptism, he says:—

Mwe Anafunzi wosaluliwa, fukamani.
Pa Zina la Ŵata, na la Mwana, na la Mzimu Mtuŵa. Amen.

    Asikulu mticitile lusungu.
Kristo mticitile lusungu.
    Kristo mticitile lusungu.

    Asikulu mticitile lusungu.

    Mwe Asikulu Ŵozila, Ausu wa mpamvu zyonse tuŵapapatilila aŵa atumiki wanu. Muŵasanikile na kuŵala kwa nzelu zyanu. Ŵapeni kulapa kwendi na mvwano womvwilani mweo. Ŵapeni kuziwisya kwendi kuti awe ŵowamila kupokela cawanzi ca mu Ubatizo nocisyiwa wana wanu; mwa Yesu Kristo, Asikulu wasu. Amen.

The the Priest speaks to the Congregation:—

    Akwasu ŵotemweka, pakuti ŵantu aŵa opangwa kulovyewa mliumba la Eklezya ya Kristo pa Ubatizo Ŵozila, ni mulimo ŵangu kuwakonsya, pa zina lanu, tiziwisye kuti osambizyiwa paweme kuti ni cintu cikulu cakupangwa lomba; na kuti awamizyilatu mmitima kucipokela; nakuti opangwa cendi kulisunga mcawanzi ca cine mpaka kufwa. Imvwani lomba mayasuko waŵo.

Then the Priest asks the Questions for that Day. When these are ended, he goes back to the Altar step to give the Instruction. After this, he dismisses the Catechemens and continues the Mass.

On Tuesday—Mass of the Passion.

The Priest having given the Instruction shall sing the Gospel as on a festival, then he will dismiss the Catechumens.
 


 

HOLY BAPTISM (ADULTS).
(Ubatizo wa Akulu.)

This Service may not be used except for those who have been anointed with the Oil of Catechumens. The people assemble at the Place of Baptism. The Priest wears surplice and violet stole, (and cope). He speaks to the Congregation:—

    Akwasu ŵotemweka, pakuti ŵantu ŵonse civyalikwilo akuŵa ŵolenda mmitima, na cikomo coteti opuvyopona mviipa, na kuti Mpuzumusyi wasu Kristo eciti, Sangalowemo muntu muufumu wa Mlungu, akakanovyalikwa mmoyo wa lomba na manzi na Mzimu Mtuŵa; Numpapatilani msengeni Mlungu Ŵata, paZina la Asikulu wasu Yesu Kristo, kuti aŵape ŵantu avva (amupe muntu uyu) cila casakumako kuŵa naco povyalikwa kwaŵo (kwake), kuti abatiziwe na manzi na Mzimu Mtuŵa, nolovyewa mu Eklezya Yozila ya Mlungu, nocisyiwa vizo vya moyo wa Kristo (cizo ca moyo wa Kristo).

    Mlungu wa mpamvu na wa maŵelo, pobatizo wa Mwana ŵanu ŵotemweka Yesu Kristo mkamana Yordani, mwituwisya manzi kusuka viipa; Tumpapatilani waloleni na lusungu ŵantu awa, muwasambike nowatuvya na Mzimu Mtuŵa kuti aŵwekuŵa wokosa mumvwano, (mloleni na lusungu muntu uyu, mumsambike nomtuvya na Mzimu Mtuŵa kuti aŵwekuŵa wokosa mumvwano) wosekelela pacigomezyo, nonkazikika pacitemwano kuti afwike kucalo ca moyo wosasila, nonkala muufumu pamo namwe, mwa Yesu Kristo Asikulu wasu. Amen.

Then the Priest speaks to those to be baptized, he says:—

ŴOTEMWEKA, mwaza kuno pakuti mupangwa kubatiziwa. Cikomo coteti muzomelezye pamenso pa mboni izi zyanu na paliumba ili lonse, kuti mopuzyamo kumkana Satana na milimo yake yonse, na kuti muwomvwila Malizu a Mlungu, nosunga komvwila matetulo ŵake.

Cikomo coteti ni panukonsya.
    Kansi wakupuzyamo kumkana Satana na milimo yake yonse, na ulemo wa tyala wa mcalo na mcinzi wake wa tyala, pamo na makumbwilo aipa a mmuwili, kuti msati movikonka nosululiwa navyo?

They answer one by one (unless they be many);

Inde, nakuvikana ivi vyonse.

The Priest then says:—

Kansi, mumcetekela wani?

They turn to the Altar and say together:—

Neo, numcetekela Mlungu Ŵata, . . .  (and all the words of the Creed).

Then they turn to the Priest again and he asks them:

Kansi, uŵocita kokoselela cipangwilo ca Mlungu, nosunga matetulo ŵake?

(Answer) Niŵosunga kokoselela.

    Umo Mpuzumusyi wasu Yesu Kristo mwecltiuzizya notisambizya tukawalala nakuti:—

Ausu wasu, . . .  (and all the Words of the Lord's Prayer)

    Mlungu wa lusungu, zomelani kuti Adamu wa kale ali mu ŵantu aŵa (muntu uyu) aikiwe mumsitu, kuti untu wa lomba uŵoneke. Amen.
    Zomelani kuti makumbwilo ŵonse aipa afwe mwawo (mwake) na vyonse vya mzimu viŵe moyo nokula mwawo (mwake). Amen.
    Zomelani kuti aŵe na mpamvu nokosa mtima vyompulamo muwepeki na calo na Muŵili. Amen.
    Zomelani kuti ali ŵonse ocisyiwa ŵozila kuli mweo, pano pautumiki wasu, apewe vyolungama vyofuma kumulu, na cilambu ca maŵelo; palusungu Lwanu, Asikulu Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse, munkala noyondolola vyonse, vyaka vyosasila. Amen.

THE BLESSING OF THE FONT.

Now the Priest wears white stole (and cope). He blesses the incense and says, or sings,

Asikulu aŵe na mweo.
Soti na mzimu wanu.

Imyani mitima.
Tuiimya kwa Asikulu.

Natiyamike Asikulu Mlungu wasu.
Ni cowamila na ciweme kucita teti.

    NI COWAMILA NA CIWEME, na mulimo wasu utiti toingocita wakuti tomyamikani Asikulu Ŵozila, Ausu wasu wa mpamvu zyosapelela, nimwe Mlungu wa kankalilo.
    Pakuti Mwana ŵanu ŵotemweka, kwa kulekelewa kwa viipa vyasu ecivwa mcitumba mwake mozila, manzi na mlopa, noŵauzya asambili wake kuyosambizya mitundu yonse, noibatiza mZina la Ŵata, na la Mwana, na la Mzimu Mtuŵa.
    Imvwani, tapapata, masengelo a liumba ili; Mwat uŵisye + manzi aŵa kosuka viipa; nozuzya na cawanzi canu ŵantu aŵa osakobatiziwa mwamene muno, kuti aŵonkala mliumba la ŵana ŵanu ozomeleka nosaluliwa; mwa Yesu Kristo Asikulu wasu, onkala noyondolola pamo na mweo na Mzimu Mtuŵa, Mlungu umo, vyaka vyosasila. Amen.

Then the Priest censes the Water three times. If the Font is an immersion font, the Priest takes the right hand of the person to be baptized and dips them into the Water three times, once saying “Ŵata,” once saying “Mwana” and when he says “Mzimu Mtuŵa.” If it is a small font, the person kneels down near the Font. The Priest baptizes them pouring Water three times when he says “Ŵata,—Mwana,—Mzimu Mtuŵa.”

As he baptizes he says;—

(NAME) NUKUBATIZA PA ZINA LA ŴATA, NA LA MWANA. NA LA MZIMU MTUŴA. AMEN.

Now the Priest dips his thumb into the Oil of Salvation and signs the person baptized with the Sign of the Cross upon the forehead, and says:—

He gives the White Vesture, and says:—

Now he speaks to the Congregation.

HOLY BAPTISM OF INFANTS.
(Ubatizo wa wana.)

The people assemble at the Place of Baptism. The Priest wears surplice, and violet stole (and cope).

Then the Priest says to those who have brought the child to be baptized:—

    Ŵotemweka mwaza naye mwana uyu (mwaza naŵo ŵana aŵa) kuti abatiziwe. Cikomo coteti mweo muli mboni zyake (zyao) muzomelezye pa zina lake (lawo) kuti mumkane Satana na milimo yake yonse, nozomela nsiku zyonse malizu a Mlungu, nosunga komvwila matetulo wake.

Cikomo coteti ni panukonsya,
    Kansi, wakumkana Satana na milimo yake yonse?
    Answer. Inde, nakumkana Satana na milimo yake yonse.
    Kansi, wakukana ulemo wa tyala wa mcalo, na mcinzi wake wa tyala?
    Answer. Inde, nakukana ulemo wa tyala wa mcalo, na mcinzi wake wa tyala.
    Kansi, wakukana makumbwilo aipa a mmuŵili?
    Answer. Inde, nakukana makumwilo aipa a mmuŵili.

THE EXORCISM.

Then the Priest says:—

+ NAKUPINGULA Satana, pa Zina la Ŵata, na la Mwana, na la Mzimu Mtuŵa, fumamo mu mwana uyu, (ŵana aŵa) nakuya kutali na yeve, (ŵeve) pakuti Asikulu Yesu Kristo amuita (aŵaita) aze ku Ubatizo wake ŵozila, nocisyiwa cizo (vizo) ca Muŵili wake. Cikomo coteti, we mzimu wosyamikiwa, imvwa upinguzi ululembewe, usati womuŵevya mwana uyu, (usati woŵaŵevya wana awa) pakuti Kristo emnunula (eŵanunula) na mlopa wake wa mcinzi ukulu, nomsalula (noŵasalula) kuti alowemo mu liumba lake pa Ubatizo ŵozila.

Then the Priest dips his thumb into the Oil of Catechumens and signs the child on its forehead with the sign of the Cross, and says:—

+ MSALABA WA KRISTO NAUKUŴA WOPATUSYA SATANA KULI MWEO MAŴELO, NA WEO, MWANA ŴANGU, WAKULWA NAYE NKONDO NOMSUSYA NA MPAMVU ZYA MLUNGU MPAKA KUFWA.

Then he reads the Gospel.

Asikulu avve na mweo.
Soti na mzimu wanu.

Then he asks the witnesses.

    Numcetekela Mzimu Mtuŵa, Eklezwa Ikatoliko Ituwa; Nuzomela kuti Asanto osanzyana, Viipa vyulekelelwa, Muŵili uzozyuke, Ulipo moyo wosasila. Amen.

Then the witnesses turn to face the Priest again.

Kansi, upangwobatiziwa kuti wosunga mvwano uyu?
(Answer) Ni mnupangwila.

Kansi, uwocita kokoselela cipangwilo ca Mlungu, nosunga matetulo ŵake?
(Answer) Niwowasunga kokoselela.

    Ausu wasu . . . (and all Lord’s Prayer.)

    Mlungu wa lusungu, zomelani kuti Adamu wa kale ali mu mwana uyu (ŵana aŵa) aikiwe mu msitu, kuti untu wa lomba uwoneke. Amen.

    Zomelani kuti makumbwilo ŵonse aipa afwe mwake, na vyonse vya mu mzimu vivve moyo nokula mwake (mwawo). Amen.

    Zomelani kuti aŵe na mpamvu nokosa mtima vyompulamo muŵepeki na calo na Muŵili. Amen.

    Zomelani kui ali ŵonse ocisyiwa ŵozila kuli mweo, pano pa utumiki wasu, apewe vyolungama vyofuma kumulu, na cilambu ca maŵelo; pa lusungu lwanu, Asikulu Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse, munkala noyondolola vintu vyonse, vyaka vyosasila. Amen.
 

 

THE BLESSING OF THE FONT.

The Priest now wears white stole (and cope), he blesses the incense, and says

Asikulu aŵe na mweo.
Soti na mzimu wanu.

Imyani mitima.
Tuiimya kwa Asikulu.

Natayamike Asikulu Mlungu wasu.
Ni cowamila na ciweme kucita teti.

The Priest now censes the Water, three times.

Then one witness shall bring the child to the Priest who baptizes it, saying:—

(NAME) NUKUBATIZA PA ZINA LA ŴATA, NA LA MWANA NA LA MZIMU MTUŴA. AMEN.

The Priest pours the Water three times on the head of the child, once when he says, “Ŵata,” and at the word “Mwana,” and when he says, “Mzimu Mtuŵa.” Then the Priest dips his thumb into the Oil of Salvation and signs the Sign of the Cross on the forehead of the Child, and says:—

+ NUKULEMBA CIZIŴIKWILO CA MSALABA NA MAFUTA A UPUZUMUSYI, KUŴA CIZIŴIKWILO CAKUTI WALOWAMO MLIUMBA LA KRISTO.

He gives the White Vesture, saying:—

    (Name) poka mwinjila uyu, ni ciziŵikwilo ca utuwa wa mzimu wako. Wolisunga Mtuŵa mpaka pauti uzopaname pacilimba copinguzi ca Asikulu wasu Yesu Kristo, kuti uzopoke moyo wa maŵelo-maŵelo. Amen.

He gives the Light, and says:—

Now he speaks to the one baptized:—

    Mwana ŵangu nakulemba (wana ŵangu namlembani) ciziwikwilo ca Msalaba, kuti usamvwa (msamvwa) nsoni kuzomela pasweta mvwano wa Kristo epacikiwa paMsalaba sembe mnyansi mwa ndembela yake, wakulwa nkondo na viipa kwa mkanka, nonkala linjoli-njoli locetekeleka la Kristo na mtumiki wake mpaka posila pamoyo ŵako (nonkala manjoli-njoli wocetekeleka a Kristo na atumiki ŵake mpaka posila pamoyo wanu).

The Priest speaks to the Congregation;—

The Blessing.

A child baptized in Infancy shall not be brought to the Bishop to be confirmed until he (or she) has been taught the Lessons for Catechumens, and the Lessons for Anointed Catechumens, and attended Confirmation Class.
