THE ORDER OF CONFIRMATION.
(Kusintilila Manja.)

The Candidates standing in order before the Bishop, the Introduction is read, as the Bishop may direct, by the Priest, or Teacher.

    AKWASU ŵotemweka mwa Asikulu, mKusintilila Manja, Eklezya yukonka msango wa Apostolo a Kristo: mBuku la Machitilo a Apostolo, pa Chapter 8, tupenda teti:—ŵala amene eculunganyiwa ezungulila ponse ponse noliŵilizya Lizu. Na Filipo esika ku munzi wa Samaliya noŵaŵilila mbila ya Kristo. Maumba nawo eteya matu na mtima umo ku vinenewa na Filipo, apo pecimvwa noviwona viziŵikwilo vyecicita. THE QUESTION.

Then the Bishop says to the Candidates:—

    Kansi pano, pa menso pa Mlungu na pa liumba ili, mumkana Satana, vya mcaro na vya muŵili kuti simuvikonka na simutanguliwa navyo.
    Answer. Niwocita.

    Kansi muzomela Mvwano wa ciKlisto ngani mwilembewela mu Vyocetekelamo vya Uklisto.
    Answer. Nuzomera.

    Kansi muzomera cendi pamene muli umo wa Liumba la Eklezia Yozila ya Klisto, kusunga cipangwilo na matetulo a Mlungu noyenda mwamene nsita zyonse za moyo wanu.
    Answer. Nuzomera.

    Kansi pano, pa menso pa Mlungu na pa liumba ili, muwelezya kucita vipango vikulu vila vicitika mzina lanu pobatizo wanu? Kansi, muwosunga nosokolola mweka vyamene vila, nozomela kuti mulumangiwemo kumvwila nocita vyonse vila vyecizomelekezja pali mweo amausu wanu na amanyina ŵanu a pobatizo?
    Answer. Nuwelezya kucita.

Here may be sung Veni Creator Spiritus, or some other Hymn to the Holy Spirit, all kneeling.

The Confirmation.

The shall the Bishop confirm in this way:—

(The Bishop) Kuyavyiwa kwasu kuli mZima la Asikulu.
(People) Epoza kumulu na pansi.
(The Bishop) Nalulumbiwa Zina la Asikulu.
(People) Citatikile lelo na maŵelo-maŵelo.
(The Bishop) Asikulu, imvwani kusenga kwasu.
(People) Nolila kwasu kumzileni.

    Mlungu wa mpamvu na wa maŵelo, mwitemwa kuvyala soti aŵa atumiki ŵanu na manzi na Mzimu Mtuŵa, soti mwiŵapa kulekelewa kwa viipa vyaŵo vyonse; NkoŴatang’isyani, tapapata, Asikulu, na Mzimu Mtuŵa ula Cipuzisya, noŵayangizila nsiku na nsiku mitulo yanu ya wanzi ya mitundu-mitundu, niwo mzimu wa mano na woziwisya, mzimu wosunga wino nzelu na wontang’a mmitima, mzimu wa luso na wolambila wendi; Nkoŵazuzyani, Asikulu, mzimu womuyopani kozila, lomba na vilimika vyonse Amen.

Then all of them kneeling in order before the Bishop, he may use the Holy Chrism and saying:—

When all have been confirmed, then the Bishop may say, all standing:

    Mwaŵotemweka, lomba pa menso pa Mlungu, wamene oziwa nowona vynse, mwazomela mapangano ŵanu a Ubatizo, nopokela kwa Mlungu cawanzi ca Mzimu wake Mtuŵa.
    Tetyo nuwilizya kuti mwazomelezyewa kupokela Sakramenti la Muŵili na Mlopa wa Klisto. Pa Zina la Ŵata, na la Mwana, na la Mzimu Mtuŵa. Asikulu ampeni cawanzi cake kuti mupeleke moyo ŵanu na mpamvu zyanu zyonse kucita cipangwilo cake na kumtumikila mwa Yesu Klisto.

(The Bishop) Asikulu aŵe mweo.
(People) Soti na mzimu wanu.

Or this collect.

    Mwe Asikulu wa mpamvu zyonse, Mlungu wa maŵelo, tapapata, kwitangulila noituŵisya mitima na miŵili yasu mnjila zya madango ŵanu na mmilimo ya matetulo ŵanu; kuti posungiwa na mpamvu zyanu zyotang'a, lelo na nsiku zyonse, tocilingizyiwa mmiŵili na mmizimu: mwa Asikulu Mpuzumusyi wasu, Yesu Kristo. The Blessing.

    + SYUKO LA MLUNGU, Mwine wa mpamvu zyonse, ŵata, na Mwana, na Mzimu Mtuŵa, nalikuŵa muli mweo nonkalilila namwe mpela-mpela. Amen.
 


 

HOLY MATRIMONY.
(Ntengo ya Mcinzi.)

The Marriage of two Christians, or of a Christian and Catechumen, shall not be solemnized, unless, by careful enquiry as ordered by the Bishop, the Priest has assured himself that there is no impediment to the Marriage in Church Law or Tribal Custom; and the man and the woman have been given the warnings and instructions which are advisable.

Before the Marriage takes place, the Banns should be published on three Sundays at Mass, or other public service if there be no Mass. But they may be omitted for sufficient reason at the discretion of the Priest, by permission of the Bishop, provided that the requirements of the preceding paragraph have been fulfilled.

The Banns shall be published thus:—

    Nuŵilizya mbila ya Ntengo ya (Name of the man) wa pa (munzi) na (Name of the woman) wa pa (munzi). Kati mweo muli monse muziŵa mlandu, kano cikomo, colesya ŵantu aŵa aŵili kuti angalundikiwe paNtengo ya mcinzi, mkundulule. Iyi ni nsita . . . . . . . yokonsya.

If the two people who wish to marry live in different places, the Banns shall be published in both places if it is possible; and before marrying them the Priest must make sure that no impediment has been alleged in either place.

If two people have married according to the Custom of the tribe, and then desire Christian marriage the Priest will publish the Banns thus:—

    Numziŵisyani kuti (Name of the man) na (Name of the woman) ŵamene etengana kale pa msango wa ku munzi, lomba ozomela upinguzi wa Eklezya nopangwa kuwamya ntengo yaŵo mu church. Iyi ni nsita . . . . . . . yokonsya.

At the time of the Wedding, the two persons to be married stand near the lower step of the Altar (or Chancel) the man on the right hand, the woman on the left, the Priest facing them says:—

    ŴOTEMWEKA ŵantu aŵa awili ŵaza kuno ku ng'anda ya Mlungu kuti awalundike mu Sakalamenti la Ntengo ya mcinzi, na soti opangwa cawanzi na syuko la Mlungu kuwayavya kunkala pamo mmankalilo wendi. Tetyo ni mulimo ŵangu kuwacenjezya kuti pati azalundikiwe mu Sakalamenti lino la Eklezya Ikatoliko, azalundikiwe na Mlungu mwine; na pa upinguzi wa Mlungu cuwakanga kulekana mpaka kufwa. Tugomezya kuti poyavyiwa na Mlungu azonkala pamo mu mtendele nosalongolola.
    Muziŵa kuti ŵantu asankala pamo paweme nopangwa kulekana kati akuya ku Court angasuzuliwe. Kati ozomela tetyo ku Court la ku munzi, sembe pa upinguzi wa Mlungu ntecuzomeleka. Pa menso pa Mlungu mulume na mkazi wake ni olundkiwa pamo mpaka kufwa. Kati mulume oleka mkazi wake notenga na umbi, kano osamleka sembe opalika, otyola upinguzi wa Mlungu, nolifumya mliumba la Kristo mcalo cino na kumulu. Na mwanakazi soti, kati oleka mulume wake nonkala na umbi otyola upmguzi wa Mlungu, nolifumya mliumba la Kristo, mcalo cmo na kumulu.
    Tetyo, ŵana ŵangu ŵotemweka, numcimulani muze ku Sakalamenti ili na mitima yosisikanya na yotemwa, popangwa cendi kunkala pamo nsiku zyonse. Sengani kwa Mlungu cawanzi na mpamvu kuti mupulemo kutemwana. Tetyo potemwana noyavyana, molekelelana msati molekana. Lomba kati mayezyo olekesyana akuza, numuuzyani pa Zina la Mlungu na pa cawanzi cake moŵafumya mmitima yanu. Mandandauzi kano ukali asalofya macetekelo ŵanu a nseko ya kumulu. Muŵonkala pamo mmtendele mu nseko na mmandandauzi, mkusangalala kano mkulwala, citatikile lelo mpaka kufwa. Soti kunsilililo pamti muze mnkale pa cilimba ca Mlungu, aze ampokeleleni kuŵa ŵana wake ŵotemweka, amene ovicita ivyo vyamene mzomelezye kuvicita mu Sakalamenti ili lomba.
    Kati alipo muntu oziwa cikomo cendi colesya ŵantu aŵa angalunakiwe pamo pa Ntengo ya mcinzi akundulule lomba pano kano asanena soti kantu.

To the man and woman, he says:—

    Numkonsyani monse mwaŵili, umo mumti mze muyasukile pa siku lopingula, paviti vize vilangizyiwe vyofisama vya mmitima yonse, kati mweo, umo umo oziwa colesya cili conse kuti mngalundikiwe pa Ntengo yendi mukundulule lomba pano. Pakuti ali ŵonse asalundikiwa pa tetulo la Mlungu, ntelundikiwa na Mlungu, na soti ntengo yaŵo mya tyala.

If anyone present shews reason which forbids the marriage, the Priest will not marry the persons until the truth has been proved.

If no one shews any impediment, the Priest shall question the man, as follows:—

    (Name) kansi mupangwa kunkala naye mwanakazi uyu, aŵekuŵa mkazi wanu, mwa upinguzi wa Mlungu, mmankalilo a mcinzi wa ntengo? Kansi mwakumtemwa, nompuzisya, nomlemekezya, nomsunga paweme mkulwala kano mkusangalala, soti posiya ayake ŵonse kunkala naye yeve yeka, mukawa moyo monse mwaŵili?
    (Answer) Ni mnupangwila.

Now the Priest will ask the woman.

    (Name) kansi mupangwa kunkala naye mwanalume uyu aŵekuŵa alume wanu, mwa upinguzi wa Mlungu, mmankalilo a mcinzi wa ntengo? Kansi mwakummvwila, nomtumikila, nomtemwa, nomlemekezya, nomsunga paweme mkulwala kano mkusangalala, soti posiya ayake ŵonse kunkala naye, yeve yeka, mukawa moyo monse mwaŵili?
    (Answer) Ni mnupangwila.
    Ni ŵani ompeleka mwanakazi uyu atengane na mwanalume uyu?

The Priest receives the Woman at the hands of her father, or elder, he joins the right hands of the man and the woman. The man shall then say these words after the Priest:—

    Neo, (Name of the man), numtengani mweo, (Name of the woman), kuti muŵe mkazi ŵangu wa ntengo, nonkala namwe citatikile lelo, likaza syuko, likaza syamo; mkuŵa na mpango, mkuŵa wozingwa; mkulwala, mkusangalala; nomtemwani nomsungani mpaka kufwa; pa mlingo wa upinguzi wa Mlungu; tetyo numcitilani cipango cangu.

Then they loose their hands and the Priest joins them again. Then the woman says these words after the Priest:—

    Neo, (Name of the woman), numtengani mweo, (Name of the man), kuti muŵe alume ŵangu wa ntengo, nonkala namwe citatikile lelo, likaza syuko, likaza syamo, mkuŵa na mpango, mkuŵa wozingwa; mkulwala mkusangalala, nomtemwani, nomsungani, nommvwilani mpaka kufwa; pa mlingo wa upinguzi wa Mlungu; tetyo numcitilani cipango cangu.

Then they loose their hands again. The man shall place the Ring upon the Book with the Offering. The Priest will bless the Ring thus:—

(If one of them is a Catechumen, the Ring is not blessed).

Kuyavyiwa kwasu kuli mZina la Asikulu.
Epoza kumulu na pansi.

Asikulu imvwani kusenga kwasu.
Nolila kwasu kumzileni

Asikulu aŵe namweo.
Soti na mzimu wanu.

Natilombe.

    Mwe Mlungu, tumpapatilani kusyukisya + kalundamunwe aka katusyukisya mZina lanu; zomelani kuti uyu mtumiki ŵanu ati avwale kuti aŵekuŵa na alume komcetekela, na kuti aŵotemwana mpaka kufwa, mwa Yesu Kristo, Asikulu wasu. Amen.

The Priest sprinkles the Ring with Holy Water. Then he gives it to the man who places it upon the fourth finger of the woman's left hand. The man holding the Ring there, following the words of the Priest, shall say:—

NA KALUNDAMUNWE AKA NUMTENGANI, NA MUŴILI ŴANGU NUMCINZIKANI, NA KUMYAWILANI VYONSE VINITI NAKUŴA NAVYO, MZINA LA ŴATA, NA LA MWANA, NA LA MZIMU MTUŴA.

The man leaving the Ring upon the finger of the woman, they shall both kneel down, the Priest says:—

Natilombe.

Mwe Mlungu wa maŵelo-maŵelo, nimwe Cipoza na Cilindila wa ŵantu ŵonse, Cipeleka wa vyawanzi vyonse vya mu mzimu, Mwe Nsauko wa moyo wosasila; ayavyeni aŵa atumiki ŵanu, uyu mwanalume na uyu mwanakazi, atutengesya lomba, mzina lanu; kuti asunge cipango cacitilana, umo na muyake, na ciziŵikwilo ca kalundamunwe aka, nonkala pamo mcintemwa na mtendele wendi, umo mmupangwila mweo, mwa Kristo, Asikulu wasu.

Then the Priest shall join their right hands, and say:

AŴO MLUNGU WALUNDIKA PAMO, MUNTU ASAWAPATULA

Then the Priest speaks to the People:—

    Pakuti (Name of the man) na (Name of the woman) azomelezyana kutengana pa Ntengo Ya Mcinzi pamenso pa Mlungu na pamenso panu, monse mwalongana muno, na mwacitila cipango, umo na muyake nopokela kalundamunwe, na polundikiwa manja ŵaŵo; nuŵilizya pasweta kuti atengana Ntengo Yendi, mZina la Ŵata, na la Mwana, na la Mzimu Mtuŵa. Amen.

Then the Priest blesses the Marriage, unless one of them is a Catechumen
 

 

(Blessing “A” )

    Mlungu Ŵata, Mlungu Mwana, na Mlungu Mzima Mtuŵa ampeni syuko nomlindilani, nomsungani. Asikulu wa lusungu amloleni na cintemwa cake nomzuzyani na syuko la mumzimu na cawanzi cake, muwonkala pamo mcalo cino na mcalo cikuza muze mupewe moyo wosasila. Amen.

Now as they go to the Altar, this Psalm is said, or sung Psalm 128.

1. Ana syuko ali ŵonse omuyopa Mlungu;
    Noyenda mnjila zyake.
2. Pakuti wakulya vyakuvupilapo manja ŵake
    Wakusekelela nonkala nkalo.
3. Mkazi ŵako aŵe nga ni mpesya utwala koswa;
    Kuntambo kwa ng’anda yako.
4. Wana ŵako aŵe nga ni tumiti twa elaya:
    Kuzinga polyera pako.
5. Ŵona, moteti ni mwati aŵosyukila:
    Mwanalume omuyopa Asikulu.
6. Asikulu awekupa syuko la mZioni;
    Nawe wakuŵona nkalo ya mu Yerusalemi nsiku zyonse zya moyo wako.
7. Inde, uzoŵone azukulu wako:
    Mtendele nauŵe pa Israeli.
    Mcinzi uwe kwa Ŵata, . . . . . .

If the woman is older and does not expect to bear children, Psalm 67 is said instead.

After the saying of the Psalm, the man and the woman kneel at the lower step of the Altar, and the Priest begins the Mass.

If there is no Mass, the Priest facing them says:—

Asikulu mticitile lusungu,
    Kristo mticitile lusungu,
Asikulu mticitile lusungu.
Ausu wasu . . . . .
(Priest) Asikulu mwapuzumusye atumiki ŵanu.
(Answer) Amene omcetekelani.
(Priest) Asikulu mwatumizye kuyavya kofumila pamalo pano pozila.
(Answer) Nowacilingizya mpela-mpela.
(Priest) Mwakuŵa linga laŵo lokosa.
(Answer) Kuti tupondo twaŵo tusaŵakata.
(Priest) Asikulu imvwani kusenga kwasu.
(Answer) Nolila kwasu kumzileni.

Asikulu aŵe na mweo.
Soti na mzimu wanu.

Natilombe.

    (1) Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse, tumpapatilani kuti mwasyukisye aŵa ŵana ŵanu, nozikomela mbuto zya moyo wosasila mmitima yaŵo, kuti mmacitilo ŵaŵo akosunga vintu vili vyonse vyati akasambile mMalizu ŵanu ŵozila. Ŵelamani pansi, Asikulu, mwasyukisye, kuti pomvwila vimupingula, nonkala posalusa mkaŵacinjilizya aŵonkazikika mcintemwa canu mpaka posila kwa moyo waŵo; mwa Yesu Kristo, Asikulu wasu.

The next prayer shall be omitted, where the woman is past the time of child-bearing.

    (2) Mwe Asikulu wa citinti, Ausu wasu wa kumulu; kwa cawanzi canu cikulu vvantu oyangizyiwa, ŵapeni tapapata, ŵantu aŵa aŵidli syuko lanu kuti avyale ŵana ŵaŵo nonkala pamo mcintemwa na mumtendele. Zomelani soti kuti alele ŵana ŵaŵo paweme kusunga misango yonse ya Ukristo, noyenda mnjila yendi, kuti aŵomzizyani nomlemekezyani, mwa Yesu Kristo, Asikulu wasu. Amen.

    (3) Mwe Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse, mwituŵisya mankalilo a ntengo, yakuŵa cipazyo ca cilundikano ca mumzimu ca Kristo na Eklezya yake; mwalole na lusungu Lwanu aŵa atumiki wanu, kuti mwanalume uyu aŵotemwa mkazi wake mwa malizu ŵanu, nga ni umo Kristo mwakuitemwela Eklezya, nopeleka moyo wake, noisunga nga ni muwili wake , na soti kuti mwanakazi uyu aŵotemwa mulume wake nomtemwesya, nomcetekela, nomvwila kuti aŵokonkesya mlingo wa anakazi aweme a mbili iweme, polinasya nolisunga paweme mumtendele. Asikulu, mwasyukisye ŵonse aŵili noŵapa kunkala muufumu ŵanu wa maŵelo-maŵelo; mwa Yesu Kristo, Asikulu wasu. Amen.

Then the Priest blesses them.

    MLUNGU WA MPAMVU ZYONSE, AWISI ASIKULU WASU YESU KRISTO, AMPUNGULILENI CAWANZI CANU KOPULAMO, AMTUŴISYENI, NOMSYUKISYANI, KUTI MUŴOTEMWANA CENDI MPAKA POSILA KWA MIOYO YANU. AMEN.

When there is a Nuptial Mass, the Priest says this Service as far as Psalm 128. During the singing of the Psalm, the Priest vests for Mass. After the Psalm, he begins the Mass as usual.

After the Lord’s Prayer at the Mass the three prayers (1) (2) (3) are said.

Before the usual Blessing at the end of the Mass he will first bless the newly married using the blessing (4). Then he may give them an exhortation.

If the parties have been confirmed they will receive Holy Communion on their wedding day, or after, as soon as possible.

The marriage of a Christian and Catechumen.

The parties stand in the Place of the Catechumens for all the Service. No blessing is given. At the words “bless” (ampeni syuko) use “help” (mwayavye awa). At the end say (instead of blessing “A”);

Kuyavya kwa Asikulu kuŵe na mweo maŵelo-maŵelo. Amen.

When people have been married before Baptism, and their marriage is recognised by the Church, after Baptism they should come to have their marriage blessed. Also it is desirable that the husband gives a ring which is blessed.

For the blessing of the marriage say:—

Blessing “A” Psalm 128 and the prayers following.

And note—If those who are to be married do not speak Chinsenga, the Priest shall change the words said by the man and/or the woman into their own language.
 


 

 

THE CHURCHING OF WOMEN.
(Mayamiko a mwanakazi pavuli
popapa mwana.)

The woman, at the usual time after her delivery, accompanied by her husband, if he so desire, shall come into the Church and kneel down, then the Priest says:

    Pekwimtemwesya Mlungu wa mpamvu zyonse, palusungu lwake kukupa syuko pewipapa paweme nokupuzumusya wino pansita yamene yolusa, tetyo uwamila kumyamika Mlungu na mtima ŵako ŵonse, nonena:—

Psalm 116. (Antiphon.) Nakuyanda-yenda pamenso pa Asikulu.

1. Nutemwa Asikulu:
    Pakuti ecimvwa lizu langu na mapapatilo ŵangu.
2. Pakuti eniteyela matu ŵake:
