This book is the "seminal text" of the Liturgical Movement (at least as far as the US Episcopal Church is concerned) which led eventually to the adoption of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. It was originally written as a series of columns in The Witness and other Episcopal Church periodicals, between the late 1930's and the author's death in 1941. It bears witness to Dean Ladd's vision of what the Church and its liturgy could be.
The author, William Palmer Ladd, was Dean of Berkeley Divinity School in New Haven when these articles were written.
