MY dear people, we come here in the sight of God, and of you who are present, to join together this man and this woman in a holy marriage, a way of life that we honour, begun by God before man sinned, which teaches us the secret union between Christ and his Church; and this holy way of life Christ showed us to be beautiful by being present at the marriage in Cana of Galilee and doing his first miracle there. The holy Word of God tells all men to honour it, and so no one must many without thinking well about it first, not rushing into it, but Thinking about it, wisely and carefully, with a deep respect, in the fear of God, and with a true understanding of the chief reasons why the custom of holy marriage was begun.
    It was begun so that men might grow in number as God wished and so that children might be trained to fear and love the Lord, and to praise his holy Name.
    It was begun to keep men and women from the sins of fornication and adultery, so that those who cannot control their bodies might remain clean members of Christ’s Body.
    It was begun so that the husband and wife, living together, might help and cheer each other in good or bad times.
    In this holy way of life these two have now come to be joined together. If anyone can give any good reason, why they should not be rightly joined together, let him say so now.

The priest shall say to the man and woman—

I CALL on you both, as you shall answer at the dreadful day of judgement when the secrets of all hearts shall be known, if either of you know any reason why you should not be joined together in marriage, to tell it now. For be sure that any who do not come together in the way God’s word allows are not joined together by God, and their marriage is not real.

THE MARRIAGE.

N WILL you have this woman to be your wife in marriage, to live together, as God teaches us, in the holy custom of marriage? Will you love her, cheer her, honour and keep her, whether she is sick or well, and turning from all others keep to her alone as long as you both shall live?

N WILL you have this man as your husband in marriage, to live together, as God teaches us, in the holy custom of marriage? Will you love him, cheer him and obey him, honour and keep him, whether he is sick or well, and turning from all others keep to him alone as long as you both shall live?

The priest shall say,

    Who gives this woman to be married to this man?

I N. take you N. to be my wife in marriage, to have and to hold you from now on, whether we have good times or bad times, whether we are rich or poor, sick or well, to love and look after you till death shall divide us, as God’s holy teaching tells us, and in this I promise to be true to you.

EVERLASTING God, the maker and keeper of all men, the giver of all gifts of the spirit, from whom comes everlasting life, send your blessing on these your servants, this man and woman, whom we bless in your Name, that living together true to each other they may surely keep the promise made between them, of which this ring given and taken. is a sign and promise, and may always remain in perfect love and peace together, and live as your laws teach us, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

    Those whom God has joined together let no man put apart.

    N. and N. have agreed to live together in holy marriage, and have done so before God and you, and have promised to be true to each other, and made this clear by giving and taking a ring and by joining hands, and I now tell you that they are man and wife together, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. GOD the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, bless and keep you, the kind Lord look on you with love and fill you with all the blessings of the Spirit; may you so live together in this life that in the world to come you may have life everlasting. Amen.

GOD of our fathers, bless these your servants and sow the seed of everlasting life in their hearts; may they truly do what they learn from your holy word, and so. obeying your will and being always safe in your keeping, may they remain in your love to their lives’ end, through Jesus Christ our Lord. ALMIGHTY God, maker of all men, the well of life, if it be your will, give to these your servants the gift of children; may they see their children grow up in your faith and fear, to the honour and glory of your Name, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

GOD you have taught us that it is never right to put apart those whom you have made one in marriage; and have made the way of marriage to be a glorious sign of the spiritual marriage that makes Christ and his church to be one, look kindly on these your servants that this man may love his wife as your word teaches, as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it, and also that this woman may truly love her husband, and in peace and quiet steadily follow the example of holy and godfearing women. Lord bless them both that they may have their share in your everlasting kingdom through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A LMIGHTY God, who from the beginning joined together man and woman in marriage, and made them holy pour on you the riches of his love, make you holy and bless you, that you may please him in body and soul, and live together in holy love till the end of your lives. Amen.

ALMIGHTY Lord and everlasting God we pray you to guide and rule our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws and the doing of your commandments, that through your most loving care both here and ever we may be kept safe in body and soul, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be with you and stay with you forever. Amen.

FATHER in heaven, by your law men and women are joined together in marriage; bless these your servants and make them one, so that they may steadily keep their promises and live together, in perfect love and peace, thro ugh Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Most merciful Father help her and her husband to lead this child in the right way, for their own great blessing and the glory of your Name, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

GOD, you hide your ways from us and do what is wonderful, but you make nothing without a reason and love all you have made, cheer this your servant, whose heart is heavy and in trouble, that she may love and serve you in this life, and receive what you have promised in the world to come, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. ALMIGHTY God, you are the giver of all health, and the helper of those who ask for your help: we call on you for your help and goodness to be shown on this your servant N., that he may be healed of his weakness and may give thanks to you in your holy Church, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The priest shall lay hands on the sick person, saying:

IN the name of God most high, may you be released from your pain, and have your health given back to you according to his holy will, in the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of life, may your mortal body be filled with new life. In the name of the Holy Spirit, may you receive inward health and peace which is more than we can under stand. And may the God of peace himself make you completely holy: and may your spirit, soul and body be kept wholly safe, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. A men.

MAY the almighty Lord, who is a very strong defence to all who put their trust in him, whom all things in heaven and earth and under the earth bow down to and obey, be now and always your defence; and make you know and feel that there is no other name under heaven given to man in whom you may receive health and salvation, except the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

INTO God’s loving kindness and safe keeping we give you. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be kind to you. The Lord lift up the light of his face on you and give you peace, now and for ever. Amen.
