    Liturgies approved for trial use

Two alternative liturgies and one alternative Eucharistic Prayer were approved at the 2024 General Convention of the Episcopal Church, held in Louisville, Kentucky. These were all approved for trial use through the 82nd General Convention, to be held in 2027. They are:

  • Two expansive language versions of Eucharistic Prayer C were approved for trial use, with the consent of the Diocesan Bishop.
  • An alternative liturgy for Good Friday, which seeks to reduce anti-Jewish or anti-Semitic language in the liturgy, was also approved for trial use, again with the consent of the Diocesan Bishop.
  • An alternative Marriage rite, which does not specifically assume that the marriage is between a man and a woman, was approved for trial use and eventual inclusion in the Book of Common Prayer. This will require approval at a "second reading" at the next General Convention in 2027. This liturgy is intended to be an addition to the Marriage rite currently in the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, and not a replacement.

Please note that these are not the final official texts, but were assembled from the submission by the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, and any amendments or substitutions approved at General Convention (Resolutions A114, A115, and A116.)
