APPLICATION
The opportunities that children have at summer camp
are both formative and exciting, providing an experience
that cannot be duplicated in any other setting. The
children spend a week immersed in a caring Christian
atmosphere that encourages growth and exploration of
both themselves and the world around them.
To
play a part in this kind of Christian camping experience
is to open yourself to the same growth and discovery
that the children encounter. All staff at the Summer
Camps are taught and trained in a variety of leadership
skills, and will benefit from Christian formation and
team building as they participate throughout the week.
This sort of volunteer experience is a valuable asset
to any resume and will assist in future ventures.
The responsibilities of a staff member at camp cannot
be taken lightly and are therefore outlined in the Code
of Conduct for Staff, this will be sent to you along
with information on Staff Training after we receive
your application package. This applies to all positions.
This will be reviewed at the Staff Training and at that
time you will be required to sign a form acknowledging
that you have read, understand and agree to follow the
Code while a member of staff. In order to ensure the
safety of staff and campers, we require that staff members
be screened according to the policy of the Anglican
Diocese of Edmonton. This requires that an Alberta Child
Welfare Record Check be completed as well as a police
record check. Forms and instructions are included in
the package, and there is no cost for volunteer positions.
All camp staff must complete
new Child Welfare Record Checks and Police Security
Record Checks.
The Diocese of Edmonton is a member of the Alberta Camping
Association , and as a member, we hold training events
for all staff prior to the camp season. If you wish
to be part of our camp team, attendance at the training
event is mandatory, and an important part of getting
to know the rest of the camp staff team. Interviews
will be conducted prior to the training events. There
will be an additional training session for each camp
prior to the camp date.
If you would like more information, or a volunteer application
package, please contact the Camp Secretary at (780)
439-7344 or
e-mail churched@edmonton.anglican.ca,
with your name, phone number, and mailing address. Applications
will only be considered once all required portions of
the application package have been completed and received
by the Synod Office.
