Friday 10 December 2004 - Sankta Lucia Concert (19.30)
The Swedish festival of Sankta Lucia will be celebrated at
the cathedral on Friday 10 December (Nobel day) at 7.30pm.
The Embassy of Sweden is happy to announce that the
City of Helsingborg Music School Youth Choirs will this
year travel from Sweden give a concert in the cathedral.
The concert will be followed by the traditional Swedish
Lucia Celebration, including a reading by Irish Nobel
Laureate, Mr. Seamus Heaney. Tickets at 10 and 7.50 euro
are available from the cathedral and the Embassy of Sweden

Saturday 11 December 2004 - Amnesty Concert (20.00)
Amnesty International will hold their annual Carols for Freedom
concert at the cathedral on Carols for Freedom this Saturday
11 December at 8.00pm. The concert will feature the
Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir, Elaine Gallagher (soprano),
Ciaran Coll (organist) and a surprise musical guest.
Tickets: 20 and 15 euro (concession) and can be

Sunday 12 December 2004 - Cathedral Eucharist (11.00)
Sung by the Cathedral Girls’ Choir. The preacher will be
Canon Kenneth Kearon, secretary general designate
of the Anglican Communion. Music includes Rheinberger
'Missa Puerorum' and Head 'The little road'.

Sunday 12 December 2004 - Ecumenical Service (15.30)
The Irish Cancer Society, 1963- 2004, will hold an ecumenical service
with the theme ‘Celebration of Life’ at 15.30 in the cathedral on Sunday
18 December at which the dean will preach. Music will include Peter
Parshall, ‘I heard the voice of Jesus say’, Psalm 23 to Brother James’
Air, and Brahms ‘How lovely is thy dwelling place’. Candles of hope
as well as symbols of the work of the society and of the contribution
of its many volunteers will be carried in procession. The service will be
followed by a reception in the atrium of the Civic Offices.

Thursday 16 December 2004 - Lunchtime Carol Service (13.15)
Sung by the Cathedral Girls' Choir in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind
Music to include Head 'The little road to Bethlehem'. The service, which
will last about forty minutes will be followed by mulled wine and mince
pies, courtesy of the Friends of Christ Church Cathedral.

Greg Fromholz, director of 3Rock youth and diocesan youth
officer, presents 'Essential at Christchurch: where nostalgia
becomes reality - a multimedia Christmas carol experience'.

Monday 20 December 2004 - Service of Nine Lessons and Carols (20.00)
The cathedral will hold its annual diocesan service of nine lessons
and carols on Monday 20 December at 20.00. There are no tickets
left for the cathedral nave, but about 200 unreserved seats will be
available in the north and south aisles unreserved on a first come,
first served basis. The car park of the Civic Offices (access from
Winetavern Street), will be open from 18.30 to 22.30. The cathedral
