On the web formatting of James Kiefer's biographical sketches

The biographical sketches by James E. Kiefer that compose the bulk of this archive were created and distributed by him as plain text files suitable for email. Because he is careful, and because most of the formatting was done by him, and is therefore consistent, we were able to write a primitive computer program that processes his email messages to produce the formatted web pages that you see here. If you come across any terrible formatting problems, please let us know.
