Thursday 3 June 2010 - Mothers' Union Service (11.15)
The Mother's Union Eucharist will take place in the chapel of
St Laurence O'Toole (Lorcán Ua Tuathail) in the south transept
at 11.15 on Thursday 3 June. See the Dublin & Glendalough

Thursday 3 June 2010 - Evening Prayer (17.00)
Due to the first Eucharist of the curate of the cathedral group of
parishes after his ordination at St Michan's this evening, choral
evensong will instead be replaced by evening prayer.

Thursday 3 June 2010 - Eucharist at All Saints' Grangegorman (20.00)
Following the ordination to the priesthood of the curate of the Christ
Church Cathedral Group of Parishes, the Revd David McDonnell, will
celebrate his first Eucharist at All Saints' Church, Grangegorman,
where the cathedral choir will, by the kind permission of the dean
and chapter, sing Rheinberger, 'Mass in Eb' and Duruflé, 'Tantum
Ergo'. The service will be followed by refreshments.

Saturday 5 June 2010 - Pipeworks Marathon (10.00)
An organ marathon will take place at Christ Church cathedral
on Saturday 5 June 2010 from 10.00 to 16.00. The marathon
has been organised by Pipeworks as a fundraiser for their 2011
organ festival. If you would like to take part in the marathon,
please email adminpipeworks at gmail.com. The marathon will
be followed by choral evensong sung by the cathedral choir.
Entrance is included in the price of admission to the cathedral.

Saturday 5 June 2010 - Evening Prayer (17.00)
Contrary to previously advertised, there will be no choral
evensong on Saturday 5 June as part of the Pipeworks
Marathon. Evening prayer will be said instead.

Monday 7 June 2010 - Shakespeare Festival (12.05-12.25)
As part of the Dublin Shakespeare Festival organised
by the Dublin University Players of Trinity College Dublin,
there will be a performance of Richard III, Act I, Scene II
in the cathedral crypt. The performers will be the DU Players.
This scene is when Richard interrupts the funeral procession
of the late Henry VI, the man he murdered to rise to power.
As the scene unfolds a number of unexpected occurrences
take place linking him to the murder. Admission is free with
a flier from the Shakespeare Festival. For further details see:

Wednesday 9 June 2010 - Shakespeare Festival (13.30-13.50)
As part of the Dublin Shakespeare Festival organised
by the Dublin University Players of Trinity College Dublin,
there will be a performance of Romeo and Juliet, Act V, Scene
III in the cathedral crypt. The performers will be the DU Players.
This is the penultimate scene of Shakespeare’s tale of Romeo
and Juliet, when the two young lovers come to their tragic end
in the crypt in the Italian city of Florence. Admission is free with
a flier from the Shakespeare Festival. For further details see:

Friday 11 June 2010 - Lunchtime Recital (13.15)
Cally Youdell, a soprano lay vicar in the cathedral choir
will give a recital in the cathedral at lunchtime on Friday
11 June at 1.15pm. A native of Chester, she has given recitals
at St Bartholomew's Church, Clyde Road, and will be participating
in the prestigious Norfolk-based Yorke Trust summer opera course
in July. Her programme will include English works by Handel and
Arne, three Scottish songs by James MacMillan, German works
by Schubert and Schumann, as well as two French songs by
Massenet and Gounod. All are most welcome. Entrance is
included in the price of admission to the cathedral. Details at:

The cathedral will be closed to visitors from 14.00
for the wedding of Judith Gannon and Gerald Rogers.

Saturday 19 June 2010 - Lunchtime Concert (13.15)
The Casper Civic Chorale is a group of 53 singers directed
by Wayne McIntire. Come enjoy a concert of American music
for an Irish audience. Entitled 'Jackalopes & Leprechauns',
the music will feature five sacred hymns and spirituals from
as well as five secular works. The music will also be performed
at four other concerts as part of the chorale's summer concert
tour in the Republic of Ireland from 9 - 20 June.

Sunday 20 June 2010 - Ordination of the Diaconate (15.30)
Sung by the Cathedral Choir. The Eucharist setting will be:
Langlais, 'Messe Solennelle'. Anthems will include:
Rutter, 'The Lord bless you and keep you', Elgar, 'The
Spirit of the Lord', and Pearsall, 'Tu es Petrus'. The ordinands
to the office of deacon and their placement parishes are:
Paul Arbuthnot (Glenageary), Ken Rue (Powerscourt), Martha
Waller (Raheny) and Terry Lilburn (Kilternan).

Friday 25 June 2010 - Lunchtime Concert (13.15)
The Baerum Pikekor Norwegian girls choir will give
a lunchtime concert at 1.15pm at the cathedral.
Admission is included in the price of admission

Saturday 26 June 2010 - Lunchtime Concert (13.45)
Southern Lehigh Meistersingers from Center Valley, Pennsylvania
will give a concert in at the cathedral on Saturday 26 June at 1.45pm.
The choir, directed by Matthew Wehr, will perform a selection of
American music, including popular choral classics, spirituals and hymns.
Entrance to the concert is included in admission to the cathedral.

Saturday 26 June 2010 - Evening Concert (20.00)
Under the theme 'Young Prodigy / Old Master', the Irish Baroque
Orchestra present a concert of Mozart and Haydn directed by
Monica Huggett with solo bassoonist, Peter Whelan. The music
will include Mozart, 'Gallimathias Musicum K. 32' and his 'Bassoon
Concerto K. 191', as well as Haydn, 'Symphony no 60 Il distratto'.
The concert brings some seasonal joie-de-vivre to Christ Church
in June, with a light-hearted take on the age-old battle between
youth and maturity. The programme features Gallimathias Musicum,
a piece written by Mozart when he was just ten, and Haydn’s Symphony
No 60, a mature yet comical masterpiece written when the composer

Sunday 27 June 2010 - Irish Eucharist (17.00)
The eucharist will be said in Irish in the Lady chapel. This is held
on the fourth Sunday each month except July and December at
5.00pm. All are most welcome. Further details of the services of

SERVICES - Just a note to state that the normal choral
services at the cathedral for June include evensong on
Thursday and Sunday, and the Sunday eucharist.
