Friday 4 July 2008 - Frevo Quartet Concert (13.15)
The Frevo Quartet will give a lunchtime concert on Friday
4 July at 1.15pm. Comprising Aisling Agnew (flute),
Feargus Hetherington (violin), Matthew McAllister (guitar)
and Douglas Whates (bass), this unusual combination of
instruments evokes a distinctive sound one more
synonymous with traditional Latin American music than
Western art music. Whether it's a simple Cuban habanera
or a fiery Argentinian tango, the quartet relish this rich
tradition, delivering fascinating arrangements and interesting
twists on repertoire both old and new. Their recent Natural
Studio Records release, Histoire du Tango, is the first in
a series of themed EPs. The programme will include
Anonymous 'Arisaig', Christopher Stout, 'Hamnataing',
and Astor Piazzolla, 'Histoire du Tango'. For further

Saturday 5 July 2008 - Cascade Singers Concert (13.15)
The Cascade Singers of the Dalles, Oregon are on their
tour of the British Isles for 2008. Founded in 1976, this
is a 'choral art group' which is run on a voluntary basis.
The director is Lloyd Walworth, a graduate of Western
Washington University in Bellingham, and Portland State
University, a teach of the year in 1994 for The Dalles High
School and was a finalist for Oregon Teacher of the Year in
2003. The choir has performed all over the world, and the
repertoire for this tour will include sacred and secular
compositions and arrangements by American musicians,
with several pieces by Irish, Scottish, and English composers.

Tuesday 8 July 2008 - Selwyn College Cambridge Concert (13.15)
The chapel choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge will perform
a lunchtime concert at 1.15pm. The programme will include:
Kelly 'Done is a battel', Harris 'Faire is the heaven', Walton
'The Twelve', Howells 'Take him earth for cherishing', arr. Rutter,
and Five English Folk songs.

Thursday 10 July 2008 - Memorial Concert for Dean Harman (20.00)
A concert will be held in the cathedral in memory of the
Very Revd Desmond Harman, dean of Christ Church 2004-7.
It will consist of a performance of the 21st century oratorio
'A Cloud of Unknowing' by Francis Pott by the cathedral choir
with tenor soloist, James Gilchrist, and takes place on Thursday
10 July at 8.00pm. There is no admission charge, but please apply
for a ticket from the administrative assistant, Sarah Drumm:

Friday 11 July 2008 - Consecration of bishop of Limerick & Killaloe (14.00)
The archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill will preside at
the liturgy of ordination assisted by bishops of the Church of Ireland,
and those representing other Anglican Provinces and possibly those
from Nordic Lutheran Churches, to consecrate the Revd Canon Trevor
Williams as the new bishop of Limerick, Killaloe, Ardfert, Aghadoe,
Kilfenora, Clonfert and Kilmacduagh on Friday 11 July 2008 at 2.00pm.
Representatives from other Christian churches in Ireland and civic
dignitaries are also likely to attend. The music for the consecration
will be: Langlais 'Messe Solennelle', Parshall 'A new commandment',
George Henschel 'Tantum ergo', Tallis 'O sacrum convivium' and

Monday 14 July 2008 - Spiorad: Celtic meditative service (19.00)
The second Monday of June saw a good attendance at the new
monthly Spiorad Celtic Meditation Service in the cathedral. An
integral part of each service is the exploration of the life and
ministry of a Celtic saint. For June, this was St Columba.
The next service will take place in the cathedral at 7.00pm on
Monday 14 of July, when the life and ministry of Dewi Sant
(St David of Wales) will be explored. All are most welcome.

Friday 18 July 2008 - Inferno Exhibition Launch (18.00)
An exhibition of paintings by the artist Samuel Walsh based
on Dante's 'Divine Comedy' will be launched on Friday 18 July
at 6.00pm. The exhibition will take place in the crypt from
Friday 18 July to Saturday 16 August 2008. Details of the

Saturday 19 July 2008 - Irish Youth Choir Concert (20.00)
Following its annual residential course in July, the Irish Youth
Choir will give two concerts, one in Limerick, and the second
on Saturday 19 July 2008 at 8.00pm in Christ Church cathedral
in Dublin. The 60-voice choir will be conducted by the highly
regarded youth choir specialist, Greg Beardsell, who is also
musical director of the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, the
Wooburn Singers, the Ulster Youth Choir and associate musical
director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The theme
is 'Darkness into Light' and will include a wide range of classical
pieces and lighter music from the 1600's to the present day performed
unaccompanied. These will include works by Bach, Byrd, Dove,
ogan, Joel, Larley, Lauridsen, Lotti, Tallis, Thompson, Whitacre.
Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night. For full details

Monday 21 July 2008 - Simon Balle School Concert (13.15)
The Simon Balle School concert choir & band from England
will give a lunchtime concert at the cathedral on Monday 21
July 2008 at 1.15pm. The director of music is Mark Taylor;
the conductor, Clare Taylor; leader, David Mills and percussion
coach, Oliver Gearing. Enjoy an afternoon with a selection
of Gospel songs and instrumental music including 'Instant
Concert' and 'Lord of the Dance' played by the concert band.
The Simon Balle School has a strong musical tradition, with
50 musicians in its concert band and 1 in 3 students having
