Friday 20 June 2008 - Pipeworks Festival Fanfare Concert (18.30)
The Pipeworks Festival opens with a Festival Fanfare
in which the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, conducted
by Catherine Simonpietri, will, on the centenary year of his birth,
perform Olivier Messian, 'Cinq Rechants'. The movements will be
interspersed with organ improvisations by David Briggs.

Friday 20 June 2008 - Pipeworks Silent Film (21.00)
The silent film, 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' (1939)
will be screened in the cathedral nave at 9.00pm with David
Briggs improvising the soundtrack to the film. Presented in
association with the Temple Bar Cultural Trust, entry is free,
but tickets must be reserved by phone. Telephone

Saturday 21 June 2008 - Table Quiz: Bell Ringers (19.00)
The cathedral bell ringers will hold a table quiz in the crypt
at 7.00pm. All are welcome, and do please bring friends!

Sunday 22 June 2008 - Evening Prayer (15.30)
Evening prayer will be said at 15.30. Members of the
congregation are alternatively invited to an orchestral
service of choral evensong at St Patrick's cathedral
as part of the Pipeworks Festival involving the three
cathedral choirs of Christ Church, St Patrick's and
St Mary's Pro-cathedral, as well as the Dublin Baroque
Players at 15.15. Canticles: Stanford 'Evening Service
in A', anthems: Vaughan Williams 'O clap your hands'
and Elgar 'Give unto the Lord'. Details of the services

Monday 23 June 2008 - Organ Competition Quarter Finals (09.25)
As part of the Pipeworks festival, the Dublin International Organ
Competition quarter finals will take place in the cathedral today
from 09.25, and then resuming after lunch at 14.00. Entrance is
free. The competitors come from a wide variety of countries, most
numerous are three entrants each from both the USA and from
Canada. Russia and South Korea supply two each, while there
is one candidate from Germany, Denmark, Norway, the UK,
and from Ireland (Simon Harden, winner of the 2007 Schnitger
International  Organ Competition in Alkmaar in Holland). See:

The bell ringers will be ringing for the departure of the viking
longship, the Sea Stallion from Glendalough which leaves

Saturday 28 June 2008 - Organ Competition Final (19.30)
The final of the Dublin International Organ Competition takes
place at Christ Church at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from
the Central Ticket Bureau at www.cbt.ie and are 15 euro
and 10 euro for concessions. The first prize is 5000 euro
and prestigious recital engagements in Ireland, the UK and
continental Europe. The second and third prizes are
3000 and 1500 euro respectively. The last competition
winner in 2005 was Guttom Guleng from Norway. Previous

Sunday 29 June 2008 - Ringing for the Sea Stallion (12.15)
The bell ringers hope to ring a quarter peal for the departing
long ship, the Sea Stallion from Glendalough. The ship will
be joined by classic, traditional and former working boats
from Ireland and the UK who have been invited to escort
the long ship by the Dublin Bay Old Gaffers Association
which exists to promote gaff-rigged sailing. For details see:

Monday 30 June 2008 - Lunchtime Concert (13.15)
Oregon Chorale will give a lunchtime concert on Monday
30 June at 1.15pm. The group is a sixty-voice symphonic
choir founded in 1985, and based in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA,
under the direction of Bernd R. Kuehn. This concert is given
as part of the choir's Scotland-Ireland tour (21 June - 6 July
2008) and includes a wide range of secular and sacred songs.
Entrance to the concert is included in the admission charge.
