The choir of Christ Church Cathedral will tour the USA in February 2006,
taking in three cities, New York, Baltimore and Washington DC. The tour
is the culmination of over a year’s preparation and fundraising, much of
which has been done by the cathedral choir themselves. Together they
have raised 60,000 euro, and a further donation from Culture Ireland
has set the choir well on the way to achieving their target.

The final fundraising venture will take place on Friday 27 January 2006
at 8.00pm in the cathedral. This is a pre-tour concert entitled 'Anthems
for America' which will include Britten 'Rejoice in the Lamb' and Finzi
'Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice'. Tickets €15 / €10 available from the
Music Office (01 671 2426) or at the door, including a draw of the
the tour fund–raising raffle in the crypt afterwards.

It is believed that this is the first time an Irish cathedral choir has
toured the US, and the itinerary will include a number of landmark
venues. The tour is also significant in helping to promote Ireland’s
cultural heritage, and Caitríona Ní Dhubhghaill's setting of the
Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in Irish will be performed at evensong
in both St Thomas 5th Avenue and Washington National Cathedral.

The twenty-four members of the choir together with director of music,
Judy Martin and acting assistant organist, Tristan Russcher, fly out
on 7 February.
