New Partnership – New Beginning
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the “Give Hope...Give a Net” campaign for insecticide-treated mosquito nets. Because of your generosity, Bishop Jane was able to present Bishop Sixbert with a cheque for $26,512.05, at a special Service of Thanksgiving, in celebration of our new partnership with the Diocese of Buye, Burundi.
This money will be used to purchase no fewer than 1767 nets, for the Diocese of Buye, where Bishop Sixbert says, “Everyone has had malaria.”
Ordination Service
Bishop Jane is delighted to announce that God-willing, The Rev. Christian Gordon and The Rev. Myron Penner will be ordained to the priesthood, and Jonathan Connell ordained to the diaconate, at 7 pm on Trinity Sunday, June 7th, 2009, at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral. Clergy are invited to vest. The colour is white. Please keep Christian, Myron and Jonathan in your prayers.
EFM Graduation Service: You are invited to celebrate the culmination of 4 years of study for three graduates of the EFM program, at 7 pm on Friday, May 29th at St. Augustine’s, Edmonton, 6110 Fulton Road. Clergy Conference : The next Clergy Conference themed, ““Living a Missional Theology”, will be held June 16th-19th, 2009, at Star of the North Retreat Centre, 3A St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert. The conference will be led by Dr. John R. Franke – Lester and Kay Clemens Professor of Missional Theology at Biblical Theological Seminary (Hatfield, Pennsylvania). Registration begins at 8:00 am on Tuesday, June 16th. Registration forms are available at www.edmonton.anglican.org/resources/forms.htm .

- Saturday, October 3: "Preaching Refresher," held at St. George's, Fort Saskatchewan, 10029-99th Ave.
All sessions are from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Please bring a BAS, BCP, Bible, pen/pencil, paper, and a bag lunch. May we remind our lay readers that you need to attend one continuing education session before the expiration of your license. (If you were licensed in 2008 your license will expire at the end of 2011). Attending a continuing education session extends the life of a license by four years. Induction Services
The Rev. Joanne Webster will be inducted as Rector of the Parish of St. Paul, Leduc, at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 4th. Clergy are asked to robe. The liturgical colour will be green.
The Rev. Donna Willer will be inducted as Rector of the Parishes of St. Mary Abbots Barrhead; St. Peter, Lac La Nonne; and St. Philip, Westlock; at 5 pm on Sunday, May 31st. St. Timothy’s Concert Series: The St. David’s Welsh Male Voice Choir will perform at St. Timothy’s, 8420-145th St., on Sunday, May 31st at 2 pm. Tickets are $15 at the door.
Supper and Evensong @ St. Augustine’s, Edmonton: The Rev. Bob Wild, retired Rector at St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church, 6110 Fulton Road, Edmonton, and author of Sacred Presence: In Search of the New Story and Sacred Journey: Gift of Earth and Spirit, will be joining his former parish for supper and an Evensong service on Monday, June 8th. If you would like to hear The Rev. Wild’s viewpoint on the inner journey, you are welcome to attend the supper at 5:30 pm, followed by Evensong at 7:30 pm. St. Mary’s, Edmonton Searches for New Incumbent: The parish of St. Mary’s, Edmonton is seeking a full-time Priest to lead and motivate a vibrant and established congregation. A copy of the parish profile is available from the Bishop’s office. The deadline for applications is June 5th, 2009.
“Following Jesus in a Time of Empire”: As part of its Centennial celebrations, the Parish of Christ Church is pleased to sponsor a seminar by two highly respected and challenging theological scholars of our time. John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg will speak on the topic “Following Jesus in a Time of Empire”. Their most recent collaborative book, “The First Paul” has just been published. The Seminar will take place at the University of Alberta’s Lister Centre on October 30th and 31st and the registration fee of $100 must be received by June 30th. A limited number of tickets are available for a private dinner with the presenters at the Faculty Club on October 31st. The cost for these special tickets is $275 and this includes dinner, admission to the seminar and a donation of $100 for which a tax receipt will be issued. Future of Full Communion Conference: An upcoming conference titled, “Anglicans and Lutherans Together: Visions for the Future”, will examine the events, successes and difficulties in the eight years since the signing of The Waterloo Declaration of Full Communion. The conference will be held June 15-17th, 2009 at Trinity College, Toronto. Conference worship will draw equally on the two liturgies and clergy, and it is hoped that attendees will come from both churches. Lay participation is particularly invited and encouraged. Cognitive Learning and Spiritual Formation Seminar: A public seminar concerning the balance between cognitive learning and spiritual formation has been planned for October 2nd and 3rd, 2009 at Providence Renewal Centre, 3005-119th Street, Edmonton. Father Thomas Keating, a Trappiste monk from St. Benedict’s Monastery, Snowmass, Colorado, will be leading the conference. A retreat for those currently practicing Centering Prayer, as taught by Contemplative Outreach, is planned for Sunday, October 4th. National Anglican/Lutheran Youth Gathering: The first ever Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth gathering (CLAY) is planned for August 2010 in London, Ontario at the London Convention Centre. An anticipated 2000 youth from across the country will attend the event. Anyone between the ages of 14 and 19, as of December 31st, 2010, can attend. Each group of six youth members must be accompanied by one adult leader. Used Computers Wanted: The Edmonton Brain Injury Relearning Society (EBIRS) a not-for-profit organization specializing in community-based rehabilitation programs and services for patients with brain injuries, is accepting donations of used computers. Rural Ministry Revitalization Conference: A five-day intensive course on rural ministry, presented by The Saskatoon Theological Union, in cooperation with the Centre for Rural Community Leadership and Ministry (CiRCLe M), will be held August 3-7th, 2009, at the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon. Dr. Marvin Anderson will present ways for rural congregations to reconnect with their mission and community, and to rediscover their passion for ministry. This is an opportunity to meet with other rural ministry leaders to share strategies, enthusiasm, prayer and solid research. Sabbatical Opportunity: Queen’s Theological College, Kingston, ON, is offering the Flora Jane Baker Fellowship (Minister in Residence Program). Each year, four people are chosen to receive up to $10,500, which fully supports 2-3 months of Clinical Pastoral Education, Transformational Leadership, Youth Experience or Theological Studies.
