>> Subject: Anglican Health Network update
>>
>> Dear friends and colleagues
>>
>> I have attached a document that sets out the objectives for AHN over the coming 3 years or so. Having now spent the past 12 months as full time coordinator, I have been able to meet a wide range of people and make better sense of the needs and opportunities of Anglican health providers and healing ministries. This document is a summary of a more detailed work plan that has been agreed by the coordinating board in consultation with the advisory council. It describes projects in progress and identifies tasks we need to initiate. These are organised under three outcomes:
>>
>> 1. Making Anglican health mission visible, coherent and collaborative
>> 2. Making Anglican health mission sustainable
>> 3. Making health care more available
>>
>> I want to emphasise the particular character of a networked approach to fulfilling these tasks. It differs significantly from that of a classic mission or development agency. AHN is designed to facilitate collaboration between Anglicans who are directly working for the Anglican church and its agencies in health care and healing. It seeks support from those engaged in health and other professions outside of the Church. With the growing distribution and reliability of communications technology, collaborators can work together to meet shared objectives in a way not previously feasible.
>>
>> I hope therefore that you will give thought to your personal and professional involvement in the tasks that have been set out. You may now have an important opportunity to add value to your own situation by engaging the help of others. You may be able to more effectively influence and support a situation that you care about. The coordinating board is here to facilitate this network of interaction. So please do get in touch as you recognise opportunity. I will connect you to others and help maintain the overview.
>>
>> I shall report on our progress in these various tasks for the next newsletter due out at the end of July. This will give you a more detailed account of the work going on, and therefore give you a clearer picture as to how you might get involved.
>>
>> One specific opportunity which may be appealing to a member of AHN is to represent the network at a consultation on TB at the World Health Organization in September. I attended a meeting there last year to help establish a stronger role for civil society in this issue (see the report on the following link: http://whqlibdoc.who.int/hq/2010/WHO_HTM_TB_2010.15_eng.pdf). This is a follow up meeting that will help finalise WHO operational guidance on community based care and consolidate the effective engagement of civil society organisations in TB prevention and care. I can host someone here in Geneva and facilitate their attendance. I cannot, however, pay for travel. Let me know if you would like to come on that basis. I will need to register someone by July 20th.
>>
>> We are beginning to draw some contributions on our facebook pages. I have changed the designation of this group to 'open' so that it acts as a 'shop window' for the network. If you are a facebook user, do go and visit.
>>
>> Greetings and best wishes to all
