William Franklin.<br><br>While members of the diocesan transition committee are planning, organizing and following up on details in these weeks before the consecration of the next bishop, others are also hard at work.<br><br>Art Werner of Advent, Kenmore, with the able assistance of Cathedral member Tom Heyer, are busy fashioning native cherry wood into an elegant crozier.<br><br><img style="text-align: left;" src="http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs011/1101966356359/img/122.jpg" name="ACCOUNT.IMAGE.122" width="211.2" vspace="5" border="0" alt="New Crozier for Bp-elect Franklin" align="left" height="158.4" hspace="5">Here they are in the process of bending and gluing 42 strips of cherry veneer only 1/36" into the curl typical of the top of a bishop's crozier. This painstaking process took about a five hours. We have folded more than 500, and our goal is at least 1000. Cranes are sacred in Japanese culture and there is a legend that if one folds 1000, a wish will be granted. Our wish is that everyone in our Diocese will join with us in prayer, send donations and continually uplift the people of Japan. On March 27 and April 10, several parish families, the Rite13 interdenominational youth group, and some people in the community stopped by to fold cranes. [April 5, 2011, The Office of Public Affairs] The Social and Economic Justice Office of the Episcopal Church Center has awarded 103 Jubilee Ministry grants in 50 dioceses for 2010 and 2011 in five categories for more than $157,250 to support mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church.<br><br>The 2010 categories are: health and nutrition; building a just society; and diocesan development. The 2011 categories are Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) workshop funding and summer camp partnership grants.<br><br>Jubilee Ministries are congregations or agencies with connections to the Episcopal Church whose mission efforts affect the lives of those in need, addressing basic human needs and justice issues.
