Pierre Whalon welcomes the initiative of the French government to work
with the Association d'Entraide aux Minorités d'Orient (AEMO) to bring
relief to those Iraqi Christians wounded Sunday in the Syriac Catholic
Church in Baghdad, Our Lady of Salvation Church. Eric Besson, French Minister
of Immigration, has announced the initiative publicly. Fifty-eight people, including two priests, were
killed in the attack.<br></div>

</p> <p>The Office of the French Prime Minister yesterday informed
Bishop Whalon, who is president of AEMO, that France will spare no
effort to offer refuge and medical care to those victims who request it.
This follows on Foreign Minister’s Bernard Kouchner’s promise of
October 25 to empower AEMO to bring out of Iraq more Christians and
members of other religious minorities who have been threatened with
death because of their faith.</p> <p>Since 2008, Episcopalians in
Europe, Iraqi Chaldeans, and French Catholics have been working together
to protect the lives of these persecuted Iraqis. To date, AEMO has
facilitated the transfer of 1,240 Iraqis, bringing them safely out of
Iraq and into France. The group includes not only Christians, but also

Pierre Whalon salue l’initiative du gouvernement français de travailler
avec l’Association d'Entraide aux Minorités d'Orient (AEMO) afin de
secourir les chrétiens irakiens blessés dimanche dans l’attentat contre
l’église syriaque catholique Notre-Dame du Salut. M. Eric
Besson, ministre de l’Immigration, de l’intégration, de l’identité
nationale et du développement solidaire, a annoncé un nouvel effort
pour les Chrétiens menacés. Cinquante-huit personnes ont péri dans

cabinet du Premier ministre a assuré Mgr Whalon, président de l’AEMO,
que la France utiliserait tous ses moyens afin d’offrir refuge et aide
médicale aux victimes qui l’accepteraient. Cette initiative s’inscrit
dans le sillon de la déclaration du 25 octobre du Ministre des affaires
étrangères, M. Bernard Kouchner, de continuer à soutenir l’action de
l’AEMO visant à amener en France encore plus de chrétiens et autres

Depuis
2008, des épiscopaliens en Europe, des chaldéens irakiens, et des
catholiques français œuvrent ensemble pour protéger ces irakiens
persécutés. À ce jour, l’AEMO a facilité l’arrivée de 1.240 personnes
de l’Irak jusqu’à la France. Parmi eux se trouvent non seulement des
