It is that time of year when diocesan councils pull together their figures and numbers to create the budget proposal they will present to diocesan convention for approval. It is that time of year when vestries and parish finance committees organize their fall stewardship drives and discern how to allocate their collective resources in the upcoming year. <br><br><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">And, it is the moment when your voices and action are most needed on behalf of the world's poorest people. <br><br></span> EGR is launching its <span style="font-weight: bold;">"Recommit 0.7%" campaign</span> - an effort to mobilize the EGR community to act and raise its voice in these budget processes, encouraging a recommitment to 0.7% giving to MDGs on all levels of the church: one person, one congregation, one diocese and one Body of Christ.<br> <br> In the current economic climate it will be tempting for dioceses and congregations to cut 0.7% funding for MDGs as a cost-saving measure. <span style="font-style: italic;">And yet, a budget reflects the heart of the church and gives us the clearest indication of who we are as Christians and what we hold most dear.</span> It is our job to remind the faithful that mission belongs in the heart of our budgets, around which we arrange the rest of our important work and ministry. <br><br> As leaders in our dioceses and parishes, we can take our cue from General Convention, held this past summer in Anaheim, California. Facing overwhelming financial constraints, General Convention cut nearly $23 million dollars from its triennial budget. And yet, what remained at tremendous cost - was 0.7% for MDGs. Now is the time to call our dioceses and parishes to that same mission-centered, prophetic leadership. <br><br> This email is to invite you to participate in this vital work.
