From bishop at tec-europe.org Sat Jul 18 15:12:56 2009 From: bishop at tec-europe.org (Bishop) Date: Sat, 18 Jul 2009 17:12:56 +0200 Subject: [Europe.justus] General Convention--an initial report Message-ID: <48E47B96-4700-4903-9EB3-C600280C69A4@tec-europe.org> Dear All, As the dust settles from the General Convention 2009 in Anaheim, I want to set straight what has been wifely reported in the press. The two moratoria on creating same-sex blessing rites and ordination on partnered gay bishops are not ended, as the Presiding Bishop and President of the House of Deputies (numbers 1 and 2 in the Church) wrote to the Archbishop of Canterbury. This is not to say that these moratoria will never end--the word itself requires a temporary, not a permanent, length of time. See: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/79901_112694_ENG_HTM.htm The third moratorium to which the whole Anglican Communion is supposed to be committed is that of bishops crossing borders into the United States to pick off congregations and set up shop, so to speak. That moratorium from the beginning has been routinely flouted. Your deputation performed brilliantly, making a cohesive team that engaged the work of the legislative committees and House of Deputies with gusto and intelligence. You can be proud of them, as I am proud. More later, as we leave Anaheim this morning. All good blessings, Bishop Pierre Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe 23, avenue George V 75008 Paris France +33 1 53 23 84 06 (tel) +33 1 49 52 96 85 (fax) office at tec-europe.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
