Saturday 1 March 2008 - Said Eucharist (12.30)
On St David's day, a midday eucharist will be celebrated in
the Lady chapel at 12.30 attended by the Anglican Third
Order Franciscans.

Saturday 1 March 2008 - Choral Evensong (17.00)
Sung by the cathedral girls' choir with the lay vicars choral and
joined by Blackburn Cathedral Girls' Choir. Music will include
Rose 'Preces and responses', Dyson 'Evening Service in D'
and Vaughan-Williams 'Lord thou hast been our refuge'.

Sunday 2 March 2008 - Quarter peal attempt (12.30)
Following the Sunday morning eucharist, the bell ringers
will attempt a quarter peal of the bells for about 45 minutes.

Monday 3 March 2008 - Lenten Space (19.00)
Sacred Space: Journeying through Lent is a reflective
time spent in prayer, music, readings and silence by
candlelight in the south transept of the cathedral
on the Monday nights during Lent at 7.00pm.
It is informal, Taizé-influenced and based loosely
on the late evening office of the Book of Common Prayer.
There will be a cup of tea afterwards and all are welcome.

Saturday 8 March 2008 - Hibernian Orchestra Concert (20.00)
The Hibernian Orchestra presents a concert entitled 'A Scottish
Fantasy'. The programme will include Mendelssohn 'The Hebrides
Overture', Bruch 'Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra' and
Mendelssohn 'Symphony no. 3 in A minor', and is conducted by
John Finucane. The soloist is Anna Cashel, and guest leader,
Dara Daly. The concert begins at 8.00pm on Saturday 8 March
and tickets are available at the door at 15 euro and 12 euro (conc).

Sunday 9 March 2008 - Cathedral Eucharist (11.00)
Preacher: Canon Katharine Poulton. Sung by the tenors and
basses of the cathedral choir. The eucharist setting is Duruflé
'Missa Cum Jubilo', the communion motet Poulenc 'Seigneur,
je vous en prie' and final organ voluntary Duruflé 'Fugue sur
le nom d'Alain'.

Friday 14 March 2008 - St Patrick's Festival Concert (20.00)
The cathedral choir will give a concert as part of the St Patrick's
day festivities. Music to include J.S. Bach, 'Cantata 182:
Himmelskönig, sei willkommen', Mozart 'Missa Brevis in
D K194' and Bob Chilcott 'The Making of the drum'.

Saturday 15 March 2008 - Said Eucharist (12.45)
The liturgical feast day of St Patrick has been moved 15 March
to avoid it clashing with the first Monday in Holy Week due to
the unusually early date of Easter this year. A said eucharist
will be celebrated in the Lady chapel at 12.45.

Saturday 15 March 2008 - Urnaí na Nóna (17.00)
Sung by the cathedral choir. The responses are Ní Dhubhghaill
'Freagraí le haghaidh Urnaí na Nóna' and canticles by MacHale
'Caintici Mhuire is Shimeoin'.

Palm Sunday 16 March 2008 - Eucharist & Palm Procession (11.00)
The cathedral eucharist will take the form of a reading of the
Passion and a procession of Palms. Sung by the cathedral
choir, the introit is Weelkes 'Hosanna to the son of David',
the eucharist setting Rubbra 'Missa Sancti Dominici' and
communion motet: Byrd 'Civitas sancti tui'.

Tuesday 18 March 2008 - Chrism Eucharist (12.00)
The Chrism Eucharist where the oil of healing will be
blessed and the diocesan clergy will renew their ordination
vows will take place on Tuesday rather than on Maundy
Thursday. All are most welcome to the service.

Sung by the cathedral girls' choir. Plainsong 'Preces and
responses', Moore 'Faburdens' and Ireland 'Ex ore innocentium'.

Maundy Thursday 20 March 2008 - Eucharist & Stripping of Altars (18.00)
A cathedral eucharist and solemn stripping of the altars. The
cathedral choir will sing the eucharist setting Howells 'Missa
Aedis Christi', and offertory motet Rossini 'O salutaris hostia'
and anthem Duruflé 'Ubi caritas'.

Good Friday 21 March 2008 - Evensong & Proclamation of Cross (15.30)
Choral Evensong and proclamation of the Cross will be sung
by the cathedral choir. Plainsong 'Preces and responses',
Whitlock 'Faburdens' and anthem Casals 'O vos omnes'.

Easter Saturday 22 March 2008 - Vigil, Confirmation & Eucharist (21.00)
Easter Vigil, Confirmation and Sung Eucharist. Sung by the
cathedral choir. Music will include the eucharist setting Kodály
'Missa Brevis', communion motet Sheppard 'Haec dies' and
organ voluntary Vierne 'Carillon de Westminster'.

Easter Sunday 23 March 2008 - Festival Eucharist (11.00)
Preacher: Archbishop John Neill. Sung by the cathedral choir.
The music includes eucharist setting Mozart 'Missa Brevis in
C K220 (Spätzenmesse)', and anthem from Handel 'Messiah'
and communion motet Philips 'Christus resurgens ex mortuis',
with concluding organ voluntary, Langlais 'Acclamations'.

Easter Sunday 23 March 2008 - Festal Evensong (15.30)
Sung by the cathedral choir. Sanders 'Festal responses',
canticles, Stanford 'Evening Service in A', anthem Purcell
'Te Deum' and organ voluntary Widor 'V/VIeme Symphonie'.

The choir will resume on Wednesday 9 April. They will travel
to Loreto in the La Marche region of Italy for the Associazione
Rassegna Internazionale di Musica Sacra Virgo Lauretana, a
festival of of sacred music from Monday 24 to Friday 28 March.
