New Year, Thursday 1 January 2009 - Ringing in the New Year (00.00)
The traditional ringing out of the old year and ringing in of the new year
will take place on New Year's Eve, 31 December 2008 starting from
around 11.00pm continuing until about 1.00am on New Year's day,
1 January 2009. The climax of the evening occurs with the ringing of
all nineteen bells full circle - the largest peal in the world - on the
tolling of the great tenor to signal the arrival of the new year. See also:

New Year, Thursday 1 January 2009 - Quarter peal attempt (14.00)
The cathedral bell ringers will attempt to ring a quarter peal
on New Year's day, as has become traditional over the years.

Friday 2 January 2009 - Lunchtime Concert (13.15)
A lunchtime concert will be given by pupils of soprano and
singing teacher, Katy Kelly. The concert will include arias
and duets from Le Nozze di Figaro, Schubert and Brahms
lieder, French art songs by Chausson & Fauré and composed
settings of sacred works such as Panis angelicus, Pie Jesu
and Ave Maria. All welcome. Entrance is included in the

Tuesday 6 January 2009 - Cathedral Eucharist (18.00)
Sung by a consort of lay vicars choral, the eucharist setting
for Epiphany will be Victoria 'Missa O magnum mysterium',
and communion motet, Cornelius 'The three kings'.

Wednesday 7 January 2009 - Choral Evensong (18.00)
Sung by a consort of lay vicars choral. Ayleward 'Preces
and responses', canticles, Palestrina 'Magnificat primi toni'
and anthem, Handl [Gallus] 'Omnes de Saba'.

Saturday 10 January 2009 - Choral Evensong (17.00)
Sung by the lay vicars choral and gap year scholars.
Ayleward 'Preces and responses', canticles, Blow 'Short
Service no. 4 in F' and anthem, Marenzio 'Tribus miraculis'.

Sunday 11 January 2009 - Cathedral Eucharist (11.00)
Sung by the cathedral choir. Eucharist setting is Charpentier
'Messe de minuit', and the communion motet is Palestrina,
'Tribus Miraculis'.

Sung by the cathedral choir. Holmes 'Preces and
responses', canticles and anthem by Sheppard:

Friday 23 January 2009 - Irish Ecumenical Service (20.00)
An interdenominational service of prayer and music will be
held on Friday 23 January 2009 at 8.00pm at which the preacher
will be the Revd Adrienne Galligan, rector of Crumlin and Chapelizod.
This is an annual service held on the second Friday of January
during the Octave of Christian Unity. All are most welcome. For
