An exciting new venture takes place this summer as the
cathedral holds a festival on the weekend of its Patronal Festival,
Trinity Sunday. This is the first in what is hoped will be an
annual festival and sees the cathedral music department
teaming up with the Friends of Christ Church.

Thursday 8 June 2006 - Festival Evensong (18.00)
An opening festival evensong will be sung by the cathedral choir.
Knights, 'Be still and know that I am God', Shephard responses,
Tavener 'Collegium Regale' and Elgar 'The Spirit of the Lord'.

Thursday 8 June 2006 - Wine tasting (19.00)
The Friends of Christ Church will hold a wine tasting evening
in the chapter room following the service. Contact the

Friday 9 June 2006 - Guided tour (11.00)
The Friends of Christ Church will host a guided tour of the
cathedral illustrated with musical interludes. For details

Friday 9 June 2006 - Lunchtime Concert (13.15)
The Dublin Institute of Technology Early Music Ensemble,
directed by Laoise O'Brien will give a lunchtime concert.
The programme will explore courtly entertainment in the
sixteenth century, and the ensemble will perform works
from the Henry VIII manuscript in addition to pieces by
William Byrd, Patrick Mando and their contemporaries.

Friday 9 June 2006 - Guided tour (15.00)
A second tour of the cathedral will be given at 3.00pm in which
the subject of 'The cathedral as a work of art' will be addressed.
This event is organised by the Friends, from whom details may

Sung by the Cathedral Early Music Consort.

Friday 9 June 2006 - Evening Concert (20.00)
Entitled 'I've got rhythm, this concert, sung by the cathedral
choir, will be a light-hearted evening of music by Gershwin and
his contemporaries, and will consist of solo songs, part-songs
and piano music. The concert concludes with a performance
of Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ played on two pianos,
by Tristan Russcher and Judith Gannon.
Tickets are allocated in three zones: A - €16 (€12),
B - €12 (€8) and C - €8 (€6). Details of the physical

Saturday 10 June 2006 - Lunchtime Concert (13.15)
This fourth Saturday lunchtime concert in the increasingly
popular lunchtime recitals forms part of the Christ Church Festival,
and will be given by the Accordion Clarinet Quartet, all students at
the Royal Irish Academy of Music. With their unusual ensemble of
accordion, clarinet, violin and ‘cello, they will play James Wilson,
'Sonatina', a quirky piece in four short movements, as well as J.S. Bach,
'B flat major Partita (No. 1)' and Torbjorn Lundquist, 'Sonatina Piccolla'.

Saturday 10 June 2006 - Organ demonstration (15.00)
Two cathedral organists, Tristan Russcher, the acting assistant organist,
and David Baskeyfield, this year's organ scholar, will give an hour-long
demonstration of the cathedral organ and will follow this with a short

Saturday 10 June 2006 - Festival Service of Music and Readings (17.00)
Sung by the Mornington Singers, this service will consist of music and
readings rather than the accustomed pattern of evensong. Mornington
Singers were awarded first prize in the National Competitions for Chamber
Choirs and Mixed Voice Choirs at the Cork International Cork Choral Festival
in both 2004 and 2005 respectively. Since 2002 the choir has been directed
by Orla Flanagan who, as well as lecturing in music at TCD and DIT,  is a
former assistant director of the cathedral girls' choir. She was recently
appointed the first Irish Kodály Institute liaison. For details, see:

Saturday 10 June 2006 - Festival Gala Concert (20.00)
The choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, directed by Judy Martin
will this evening perform four of Bach’s large-scale virtuosic motets:
'Singet dem Herrn'; 'Komm, Jesu, komm'; 'Jesu meine Freude'; and
'Der Geist hilft'. In addition to these choral works,Tristan Russcher and
David Baskeyfield will play a selection of Bach’s organ works.
Tickets are allocated in three zones: A - €25 (€18),

On Trinity Sunday, the Friends of Christ Church hold a lunch, which will
this year be held in the crypt. Pre-booking is required for this event.

Sunday 11 June 2006 - Friends of Christ Church AGM (14.00)
The Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Christ Church takes place

Sunday 11 June 2006 - Festival Evensong (15.30)
Sung by the cathedral choir, this service of choral evensong will
conclude the first Christ Church Festival. Music will include:
Philips, 'Tibi laus', Leighton responses, Weelkes, 'The Ninth Service'
and the winning composition competition anthem.
