GC97 news flash: same-sex union rejected, +more

Philadelphia: Saturday, 19 July 97

Word has just come from the Halls that the approval for the official blessings of same-sex unions, and the call for a rite to be written and authorized so to do so, have been rejected--but by the narrowest of all possible margins: Rejected by ONE vote exactly in the votes of both places.

Yesterday's news:

The adoption of the Canon(s) which will guarantee women who are called to ordained ministry access to that Process--discernment and potential ordination--has been approved by the House of Deputies. The granting of medical benefits to those employed by the church and living in domestic partnerships has passed.
