The cirulation of Archbishop Carey's pastoral letter, which he
has requested be read in every church on Sunday 28 September,
has generated a great deal of discussion as to the Metropolitan
authority of the Archbishop in churches outside England. If you

Today we realize that what is needed here is not Metropolitan
authority, but Gregorian authority, as Sunday 28 September took
place in 1997 and will next take place in 2003. In 1998, the 28th
of September is a Monday.
